I have a question for everyone here.

We're supposed to go sailing, but how does someone willingly go on a ship with so many different people, when doing so could put the people in your crew at risk? How do you live so closely with that many other people when just being near them could be dangerous for them?

[ The penmanship looks really old-fashioned, but still perfectly legible. It's clear this person hasn't seen anything written in a long time, but thankfully, writing is like riding a bicycle. It's not something anyone forgets how to do. There's SOME voices in the background, but it's distant and muffled. Whoever is writing this went to great lengths to avoid others. ]

I'm not sure if you would, if you knew who I was, and what I am responsible for.

But I don't have that information, so this is how I feel.

A lot of people are dead because of me.

[ When factoring in the people he's killed personally (intentional or not), the demons he's created via Living Magic some of which continue to wreak havoc even into the present time of his world, the various cults that worship him and follow his example, and those who have found surviving copies of the Book of Zeref and try to master the magic he's written down... he's responsible for possibly hundreds of thousands of deaths, directly and indirectly. ]

Nobody should feel bad for me.

Do you regret that?

Remorse isn't enough to change the world, or undo the damage I've done to it. Least of all when, century after century, the rest of humanity shows that it refuses to learn from my example.

It definitely sounds like too much damage to undo, yes.

What do you mean, learn?

Every era I've been alive for has shown the same thing, over and over again. War, famine, greed, the pathological need to achieve and maintain power at every cost... If there's anything humans should take away from everything I've done, it's that this always ends the same way. But they don't. And worse still, they do this while trying to claim the moral high ground.

The worst part of immortality is watching history repeat itself.

I don't understand the connection. Is what you do a punishment for them?

No. But it was them who made it possible for people like me to exist.

I can't form a very clear opinion without knowing more about it - but I understand if you don't want to go into much detail.

But it doesn't seem like you're trying to hurt anyone here, right?

I don't have to 'try.' It happens anyway, whether I want it to or not. I don't want to take anyone's soul, but that's just how my magic works.

[ And if this world really is swarming with pirates, a confrontation with them seems kind of inevitable. ]

I've taken so many by now that my own life has been extended indefinitely.

That sounds very threatening, which is a good trait for a pirate. I think a strong crew would be lucky to have you along.

They might think that, until I lose control of my magic again.

But you can't stay on the island. Plus, with how many people are there, isn't it a danger to less people on the seas than in an inhabited town?

Let's say you're right. What would stop everyone on the ship from dying, even if I were to confine myself to the cargo hold? I still need to eat, drink, bathe, and occasionally have some fresh air, even if I am immortal. And if the worst were to happen, I can't crew a ship completely by myself.

[ And he'd really, really prefer not to live on a ship crewed entirely by Living Magic constructs. Especially after the way some of his more infamous creations turned out. ]

I don't know enough about your magic to say.

It kills on contact by forcibly ripping the soul out of its body.

[ ... not that he has any experience with what happens when the soul was never inside of the body to begin with. ]

No... no physical contact necessary.

How difficult...

But I still think it's bad for you to be alone.

I hope that some of these people from other worlds will have their own ways to resist my Death Magic. But it seems like a very big risk to take...

I bet a lot of people here are stronger than you expect!

There are plenty of powerful wizards and witches in my world. But Death Magic affects them the same way it would affect anyone else, unless they know a way to resist it.
