I have a question for everyone here.

We're supposed to go sailing, but how does someone willingly go on a ship with so many different people, when doing so could put the people in your crew at risk? How do you live so closely with that many other people when just being near them could be dangerous for them?

[ The penmanship looks really old-fashioned, but still perfectly legible. It's clear this person hasn't seen anything written in a long time, but thankfully, writing is like riding a bicycle. It's not something anyone forgets how to do. There's SOME voices in the background, but it's distant and muffled. Whoever is writing this went to great lengths to avoid others. ]

Then who do you need?

To be honest, I really don't know.

[ In the modern era, Zeref learned the hard way that he didn't know everything about magic anymore. Ultear's Arc of Time magic was something he didn't see coming, regardless whether or not his own Death Magic was weakened by his unwillingness to kill her. But here? In an entirely different world? Zeref might have been able to get the Eclipse Gate working, but inter-dimensional travel is a whole different kettle of fish. Especially when those other worlds clearly have magic so different that they don't even work the same way as they do in his world. ]

I'll have to find out more about magic from other worlds.

[The comment caught Piers' curiosity. There were many things that he wanted to know himself about this strange world, particularly how his connection with elemental aspects of his world would be affected. Although he was concerned about this stranger's pragmatic pessimism, this was something that he could understand.]

What kind of magic are you looking for?

[It wasn't a strange word for him. Psynergy had been compared to magic numerous times by regular people in Weyard. It was strange, but he truly was curious about what the stranger meant.]

Magic that can construct a barrier.

I see.

[There was a noticeable pause before Piers continued.]

Unfortunately, I know of nothing of the sort in my homeworld. That said, I wish you the best of luck in finding it.

I've tried for centuries. Era after era, very little changes. Unfortunately, that includes me, too.

I understand that problem more intimately than you realize. Better than of the others in this world.

Not the hunt. But the time.

I've done terrible in my world. But I, at least, was able to learn from them. Something humanity seems incapable, or worse, unwilling, to do.

While my people have done no terrible deeds, they too are unwilling to change or even accept any evidence of it.

Perhaps we're not too different in that respect.

This world is different from the ones we have come from. There is the chance that any dangers you bring could be lessened because of this. I know that my own talents are.

It's a risk I'm not comfortable taking, until I know for sure.

Willing or not, be prepared for the fact that you may not have a choice about what happens in the future.

I made my 'choices' a very long time ago. I'm well passed the point of wishing that I can change them.

[Clearly, there was nothing he could offer the man.]
