[After discovering how her journal might work in this thread, Maribelle wastes no time in trying an entry of her own.]

To all those capable of reading this message, I would like to announce that I fully intend to form a company of individuals who are sick of the lowborn filth and scum known as pirates. For too long have I witnessed the innocent have their livelihoods and lives threatened by these brigands, and now I have been shanghaied to work for one?! No I say! We must take a stand together as one, and defend this world from these hooligans at every turn!

There will never be peace in this world if we simply let pirate ransack, pillage, and steal from whoever they please. So I'm issuing a call to the masses, rally to me all of you who wish to see Justice. Rally to me those who are confused and live in fear of being squashed under the heel of this pirate menace. Rally to me all of ye people who wish to see a brighter tomorrow, for I shall not rest until we all can see it!

People who break the law and hurt others are the worst! Even if that awful man's claims about us "regretting it" are true, there are better ways to find a jewel than allowing or even resorting to piracy.

If this specter wants this jewel so badly, then I propose that we find it in a more civilized manner, and make him deliver before we hand it over to him.

I'm getting ahead of myself though, allow me to introduce myself. I am Maribelle of Ylisse.

It's nice to meet you, Maribelle-san! I'm really glad to see that some people aren't willing to go along with this farce.

Ah... I fear you likely haven't heard of it, just as I have never heard of Japan.

[Although... judging from the san that she added at the end of her name, she's suspecting the place is much like the nation of Chon'sin.]

I'm just glad to see I am not the only one who thinks so. I was almost worried for a while that perhaps all of the people that the ghastly ghoul had summoned here were pirates. That's why I feel it's so important for us to gather all the people together who aren't pirates in a common cause to stop them. Can I count on you to help me Aoko?

[ Amazing was one word for it, that's for sure. Aoko can't—and won't—shake her righteous indignation and fury over being torn away from her home, but she can't help a spark of curiosity. ]

You can! Definitely! If people are being hurt or bullied . . . I won't stand by and watch. [ While she can't exactly approve of vigilantism, standing up for others and for her own beliefs isn't exactly the same thing, is it? It is fairly remarkable I will admit. I have been to the outrealms before which are other words that seemed in many respects to mirror my own, but some of the worlds people have been summoned from are vastly different than anything I'd ever imagined.

[Oh dear. At some point if she'd heard her say that, Maribelle would have to explain to her that it wasn't exactly vigilantism if there were no laws to begin with. Besides, as a noblewoman in training to be a judge magistrate in the court of Ylisse, Maribelle likely was the closest thing to a lawful authority figure around here.]

That is indeed a very good start. With any luck we may even be able to stamp out the piracy all together before it even has time to take root! That's likely being overly optimistic though. I saw some shadier individuals fleeing the scene the minute we all arrived.

I am Maribelle, daughter of the duke of Themis and Magistrate of the noble court of Ylisstol. I have been trained in military and naval warfare, tactics, fencing, and have practiced with the clergy of Naga since I was of age. I am a personal adviser to King Chrom of Ylisse, and a personal friend of the royal family.

I apologize, Lady Maribelle, if I have given any offense with my question. There are many of us here who are exceedingly out of our element. I'm afraid I'm one of those.

My name is Otori Kyouya. I am the third son of Otori Yoshio. My family runs several large companies, many of which provide for the medical field.

[She can tell she's certainly not dealing with an amateur here at the very least, but she is actually rather pleased to see someone who is at least familiar with how one is supposed to behave around the nobility. Even if it is of another world, nobles do tend to keep a certain air about them the commoners lack.]

Not at all Otori. These are indeed trying times for many of us, and I can certainly respect your desire not to join in a doomed cause. I too would have to question the qualifications of one who would desire to take a stand against these villains without having seen what they are capable of.

If your family runs a medical company, are you perhaps trained in the field as well? It may become a valuable asset with what little we have to work with at the moment.

I know a little, but I am still in school where I come from. My next step upon graduation would have been to enter medical school. I can identify types of medicines and some natural remedies that have the same effect, though.

I am most valuable, though, as a treasurer. I have extensive practice balancing a budget for a very elaborate imagination and still having profits to count.

[Which he sees as a very marketable skill here. After all, even if her goal is to stand against piracy, a crew will still require paying, supplies buying... Which means they will have to have an income and someone to manage those funds.]

I know of a few others who might be amenable to your plan as well, though when I last saw one, he was injured. He might need time before he can take to sea -- or he might have joined with others.

[Or he might not appreciate a teenager speaking of him to others. But... Kyouya would risk that. It was for a cause worthy of a samurai, after all.]

[Maribelle was admittedly rather impressed. She'd indeed managed to find a very powerful ally if all that he was say was true. She merely hope that his loyalty wasn't for sale to the highest bidder like many of the more disreputable nobles she'd known.]

You were proving your worth to me well before you ever started listing your many talents Otori, and I think it would benefit both of us greatly if you were to accompany me. My cause is not only noble, but I believe you may find it has quite a bit of opportunities for one such as yourself.

[There was a slight pause at his mention of the injured person he spoke of.]

Do you know how severe his injury might be? I believe I have means of healing him much sooner if he is in need of it.

Yes... well thank you very much good sir. I thought that perhaps it was what people needed most in these troubled times to give them hope.

So he managed, continuing his spirited, approving tone] You'd be correct; hope shines bright like a light in the darkness. It seems like you've had experience in inspiring hope.

Well... as of yet it seems that I have only been able to find novices at best, let alone anyone who knows about proper rigging. The pickings out here are rather... lean in that regard.
