[audio] On noticing the Doctor is gone...

*When Selphie speaks up over her journal, some might catch the tail end of a sigh*

So, more people have been disappearing... A whole bunch of people seem to arrive here at the same time, but the people who leave - They just poof, disappear into thin air whenever.

There's not a trace of him left... Just the stuff he left behind in his workshop. But he's really gone.

Guess that's why we should make the most of the time we have with the new friends we make. You never know when one morning you'll go to talk to someone that...just won't be here anymore.

*She clears her throat, signalling the end of her comfort zone*

You think he likes us both? Maybe it developed Stockolm Syndrome when we painted it.

Maybe he does! We're both very attractive, interesting, intelligent individuals. I'd be in love with us both if I was that turkey, wouldn't you?

*And she blows the turkey a kiss just for good measure*

I'm not into sharing, though.

[Pause as he eyes the animal and her.]

Maybe we should reconsider putting it in the oven.

*That makes her laugh, probably much more than she should, but it's really too sweet, and quite hilarious. She grabs up Ikki's arm and leans into him, whispering like she's keeping out of earshot of the turkey*

Ikki, are you jealous of that little turkey bird?

[He just arches an eyebrow at her.]

Who said it was you who I didn't want to share? I meant the turkey.

[No, he didn't, but he's not jealous either. Not of that turkey. Of intelligent guys who can actually rescue and protect her while he can't even find her? Yes, he is jealous of those. Not that he will ever admit it.]

*She quickly lets go of her arm them and steps aside, brushing down the sleeves of her dress*

Well, that's fine then. I can just leave and let you two get on with your petting.

*Is she joking? Maybe. Is she serious? Maybe.*

And what are you going to do?

[It doesn't seem to matter to him whether she's serious or not.]

I'm going to - Uhm... I don't know? Find something else to do while you two have your fun?

*She shrugs lightly while she tries to think*

I could go read that book that the Doctor gave me. I haven't got round to reading it yet.

*And what better time to read it than when he's gone*

[He frowns at that.]

He gave you a book? When? Why?

[Why hadn't he thought of that? No, instead he went with learning to dance, how stupid.]

*Selphie blinks at the frown, and the questions*

Yeah. He gave it to me after the whole thing, with the capturing...

*She doesn't really know how to refer to that, and is especially careful about bringing it up around Ikki*

It was to help me pass the time while I was laid up in bed.

But you never got around to read it.

[Too busy dreaming about the Doctor rescuing you?]

If it was given to you to pass the time while you were laying in bed then you should only read it then. So save it for the next time you're injured.

[Which will never come if he can get away with it.]

I read some of it. It's a book with lots of different little stories in it, you see.

*Yes, Ikki, that is totally what she's been doing the whole time*

Hey! I don't wanna get injured like that ever again! I won't let that happen. So...I should read it now, cause I'm not waiting around to get shot just so I can read a book.

[Period.]

*Okay... She looks at him, a little confused, and a bit put out*

I should what? Read the book or get myself shot?

Leave the book until you're shot.

[Which she won't, because he won't allow it.]

What? Ikki, that doesn't even make any sense. What's the big deal with getting to read it now? You said yourself you want to be alone with the turkey - so what am I gonna do now, huh?

*She puts a hand on her hip and she shakes her head at him - seriously, what is wrong with him?*

Don't you have anything else to do if you want to leave? Does it have to be to read that book?

[When did he say he wanted to be alone with the animal? He just said he didn't want to share, that's not the same.

What? You mean I can leave to do anything else, but if I leave to read that book, it's the end of the world? What the hell is that even about Ikki? It's just stupid.

*Both hands now on her hip, she walks over to stand closer, eyes staring up at his, wondering what his deal is*

Who said it's the end of anything? I'm just asking if it has to be that book! What, are you missing him so much already that you have to go running to cling to whatever is left with some connection with him rather than be here?

[With him. Where he can keep an eye on her and make sure she's okay.

Ikki groans and stands up, scaring the poor turkey even more than it already was due the sudden change in the conversation.]

Do whatever you want, it's your life and your time. Besides it makes sense, doesn't it? It's him to whom you're indebted, it was him the one who saved and healed you, of course you would miss him and worry. It's not as if there's anyone left who could do that for you.

[She's right, it's ridiculous. And pointless. He shakes his head and starts heading to his room almost kicking the animal out of his way.]

*When she looks at him, she's both upset and frightened. She doesn't know where any of this has come from. All she did was say she wanted to read a book*

But...it's a book. That's all. It's got nothing to do with the Doctor, or anyone else. I don't understand -

*Then he got up, the turkey wobbling to try to get out of Ikki's way, so she leapt forward to grasped onto his arm to try and stop him from going anywhere, though she's not sure if that'll even slow him down*

[He's stopped but that doesn't change his mood, he looks at her, frowning.]

It's a book that he gave to you. When he rescued and saved you. While I was being useless at protecting and helping you! And now you want to go and read it when he has left instead of being here with the stupid turkey and me!

[It has everything to do with the Doctor, of course.]

*She frowns at first, then she just appears to look a little upset at what he's implying, and she lets go of his arm to hug herself, for protection*

But, you did help me. You helped me a lot. And - and it's just a book, that's all. I didn't mean...that I wanted to go sit in bed with memories of him. I just wanted to read the stories.

*Selphie takes a deep breath and looks up at him, but doesn't really know what to say, but she bites her lip, then bows her head to look down at her feet*

I'm here, aren't I? I'm standing right next to you. But that's - that's not good enough for you because...because you think I'm busy thinking of someone else.

[She says he helped her and maybe he did, but it doesn't matter. It wasn't enough. It wasn't the help he wanted to give her. All he had done was picking up the crumbles left behind by the Doctor and build something with them, but surely that guy could have gone it better or something.]

You didn't say that you wanted to read a book. You said that you wanted to read a book that he gave you.

[He wouldn't have asked where she had gotten the book, it was her who brought him up. Again. Was he that often in her mind?]

I didn't think you were thinking of someone else until you said that.

[He eyes her for a moment and groans before moving again. He crouches in front of her and then he lifts her as if she were a potato sack. Then, with his luggage firmly secured and held, Ikki starts to heard towards the rooms, leaving the turkey behind. The animal stares after them before it tries to pick food from the floor, finding nothing it decides to follow them slowly.]

*It was difficult, but she eventually manages to look back up at him, her expression not much changed, if but for a frown of worry. Maybe she should have thought a bit more about what she said, how she said it. Makkybe she wasn't cut out for this kind of thing, whatever this kind of thing was.

She was just thinking on what to say, perhaps even an apology, when she squeals as he lifts her up*

Ikki! What are you doing?! Where are you taking me? If you wanted me to get lost you should've said!!

Shut up. I'm sleepy, I'm going to take a nap.

[And she's coming with him, apparently.]
