How many ships have had people vanish?

Did anyone notice anything unusual before they disappeared?

Three months. Most of them within the past month or so.

I assume you also don't think it likely that it was foul play.

I doubt it. In most cases we were at sea and there was no opportunity for an outsider to approach unnoticed.

It looks like that's the trend. No one seems to know much about anything in this world.

Either that, or they're just not telling.

Is that speculation or suspicion?

Speculation for now. Still, the natives took it awfully well when we first came here. One would think there would have been more alarm at large numbers of outsiders appearing out of nowhere.

So you think the civilians might know more than they let on?

They seemed alarmed enough when I arrived, but it might have been an unusual circumstance.

It's possible, certainly.

[There were only two waves that would fit the unusual bill.] Most of us don't try to set half the town on fire and cause an assault on the local authorities.

Maybe if more of us did, we'd have a better idea of the authorities' capabilities.

Were you there when I arrived?

We'd also receive even less hospitality than we do now.
