Yo. Name's Captain Strider, and if there's any of you stragglers around who still haven't hooked yourself a crew, talk to me. Going to be setting sail in a few days for my crews first expedition and it never hurts to have a few extra sets of hands on board. Or paws or hooves, whatever you've got. I don't discriminate. Whatever you don't know how to do, I can teach you so long as you want to learn.

And on the matter of setting sail, we're going to start gathering supplies and picking out a ship. Throwing a line out for a few more to see if there's any interest, but it's time to get a head start on this shit. So, who wants to go where?

Hey. Know I told you to contact me when you made up your mind, but figured it wouldn't hurt to check in since I'm starting to get the major supplies together. You interested in joining or have you found something else you'd rather go with?

Finally heading out soon, and I've got that radar ready and set up for you. Might be a bit before I can head over with it, I've gotta get my crew's shit together first. Anything of interest come up over the past few days?

If you're referring to where we're going in regards to whether supplies or ship hunting, yeah I'm aware of where you want to go but that doesn't mean everyone knows. I've gotta keep shit on task here, even if I already have a general idea of who I'm sending where.

Sure sure, nothing against staying organized. I was thinking ahead to where we'd be going after we're on the ocean, seeing as I've already done some supply and information-gathering of my own, some bargaining--I found this really cute dress for cheap in the market, I can't wait to show it off at the banquet to all the other crews!

So, you want to help get the supplies we'll need? Thinking there's already at least three of us who'll be picking out the ship, assuming Rider will be more interested in that than supplies.

We're not going to the fucking banquet first thing, I told you we'd discuss it and we will, just not now. Where we're going is the island on the fucking map I acquired and then we'll decide from there. Having everyone in one location is just asking for trouble and sounds like a shitty idea in the first place. The only thing it would be good for is checking out the competition and I can do that some other way.

We're not making any decisions on that until it's been run by the whole crew, got it?

I'll let you handle the ship and I'll take care of the supplies. Have our cook and one of the others meet me at the fountain while you all buy us a ship.

The Sinewave. Crew name can be debated later once we've got everything and everyone together.

[He pauses, a hint of annoyance slipping into his voice.]

Someone threw out the idea for all the crews to get together for a banquet somewhere for a nice and happy meet and greet. Codi seems dead set on wanting to go but it sounds like a really bad fucking idea so I'm refusing. I told her we can discuss it with everyone later, but honestly? A huge gathering of pirates in one place? That's just begging to be fucked over eight ways to hell. Even if most of them are idiots, if the navy gets wind of that then like fuck we're going to be there when shit goes down.

Aren't we running it by the whole crew now? Hello crew! Sorry for not addressing you directly, I just thought our Captain understood that only we could see this and not anyone else, therefore making it an extremely good way to discuss sensitive information without anyone else listening in. As if you could call it that--it's a banquet, Strider.

[And then she decides that now is the time to talk about it.]

It's a great chance to meet everyone and make allies with them--or, since you're so concerned about it, figure out who we need to avoid. It'll be fine. Besides, don't you trust us to watch your back?

[She doesn't care about the name of the ship, to be honest, so there's no arguing from her over it. And it sounded neat. As for the banquet...]

That's a waste of money we don't have.

It's not just about that. Think about it. What the fuck would happen if the navy notices a shitload of ships all heading to the exact same destination? You're forgetting that we're not just sailors here, we're fucking pirates and there's people in this world who don't take that too lightly. Sure, there's other crews out there who are filled with hopeful optimists but it's still a bad fucking idea to get so many gathered in one location.

That's the first reason. The others could be weighed on their potential risks. Unless a shard happens to be there, it's not going to be worth it.

[Her tone changes, ever so slightly darker.]

If the Navy notices, we take them out. Very simple. At worst, there's enough of us to send them a message.

[Then, just like that, she's back to her loud, obnoxious self again.]

I don't even understand why they insist on automatically labeling us as pirates anyways. We can manage a perfectly refutable sailing business just as well as the locals! What a bunch of prudes.

Exactly. And yet somehow, she doesn't seem to see reason on this. Maybe we can send her over one of the Navs as an ambassador or something if she's that fucking determined to go, but we're not taking our ship out there.

[And another heavy, annoyed sigh.]

Which of course means we'll have to send someone with her to make sure nothing happens. But we can deal with that shit later, we don't even know if this is actually going to happen, it's just an optimistic idea someone came up with and it's causing all this bullshit.

That's putting too much faith in the other crews to be able to pull their weight without knowing what they're capable of. I'll rely on ours and one other, that's it. You can't make too many alliances in a place like this, blind trust will only cause a fuckload more problems than it'll solve.

[Ah--she must be one of the penny-pinchers Dirk was talking about when they first met. Codi's been planning for this.]

We won't need to worry about money. I've been making some deals while we've been sitting around here which should prove to be extremely lucrative for us.

Until it's an official thing, there's no point in talking about it further.

That's why I told her we'd discuss it later, but she's stubborn as fuck.

That sounds like all we need, really--just need to be sure that we can run faster than the other crews if things go south.

--The other crews that we won't be trusting blindly, mind you. The whole point of the banquet is to get to know everyone, not stand around like a bunch of idiots and wait for people to notice us. You can only get so much out of these journal things.

[Amelia generally tries to keep a friendly tone towards everybody, but there's just the slightest hint of alarm in her voice when she speaks up. Somebody tell her she didn't just hear that.]

Excuse me ma'am, but I really don't think that's a good idea!
