[The following is written in what can probably best be described as a flamboyant yet legible chicken scratch.]

Dear Creepy, Enchanted Pirate Diary,

The rhyming and the pirate accent are a nice touch. Very authentic-like.

SO, this was definitely NOT what I was expecting when I woke up this morning. Or what I'd expect waking up any morning, really. But here I am, and here we are, and I have to say, out of some of the potential career options I was considering back home, the idea of turning to piracy definitely has some appeal.

Since apparently I can use this thing to recruit crew members, that's what I'm going to do.

I've already got a captain and a healer and a ship's dog, so I'll be needing a musician, a cook, and maybe a navigator. Also a warrior-type or two, I guess, since Aveline and Fenris didn't have the decency to come along with us.

All applicants please report to Captain Isabela.

Well, I'm no expert on pirate culture. I was a privateer and officer by profession. The other side, if you will. There probably was more kissing going around on the pirate ships.

But no, not one for the hearts and sparkles.

Though maybe if you had some pretty colored inks.

Neither am I honestly. One of my good friends is, though I'd be an idiot if I took her experiences alone as average for the experience as a whole.

I've nothing like pretty inks as of yet. I have found some nice feathers, though.

[They're ostrich feathers. Attached to an absolutely hideous hat. Which he wears with delight and absolutely no shame whatsoever.]

Privateers and pirates be about the same though, especially in the eyes of the enemy. Once I was commissioned things changed. I remember the early days... back when things were more like a rat's nest.

Too many ugly men for there to be any kissing, I say, aye.

Well then perhaps your luck is changing, as I've seen quite a few very nice-looking men wandering about.

Wonder if you can plead your belly and avoid the axe here.

I don't know. You'd have to ask a local if you want an answer to that.

It would be a pretty twisted thing though, killing a woman pregnant with child.

People are capable of some pretty twisted things.

Is there a reason for the sudden turn into the morbid, or do you always begin acquaintances this way?

You've never heard stories about women pirates pleading their bellies to escape the gallows?

It does sound vaguely familiar, I'll admit. Although where I come from, I don't think most women pirates would choose to stay pregnant once they found out. Child-rearing tends to get in the way of looting and pillaging, or so I would assume.

You say that as if there's a choice once you get pregnant.

Well, I have to admit I'm no expert on the matter, but I know there are ways to void unwanted pregnancies where I come from.

Pennyroyal and the like ... most of those potions could kill man or woman.

I've never heard of Pennyroyal, though that never means much. One herb can have twenty different names across one country, after all.

Any halfway decent spirit healer can be helpful in that area, and with far fewer unwanted side-effects.

What is that? Witchcraft?

That's a fairly uncommon term for it, but it does get across the general idea, I suppose.

I doubt that option would turn out too well either.

Why do you say that?

Witchcraft is a crime where I come from, worthy of execution. Can't imagine 'killing a baby with witchcraft' would meet the approval of the law.

Is that your opinion on witchcraft as well?

It's one thing to kill a man for what they've done or what they'll do, but I don't care how they did it.

If anyone is going to judge them for the method, it can be god for all I care.
