[It's taken the young knight a bit to decide to actually speak up in the strange journal, instead taking some time to sift through it. First off is simply coming to terms with the fact this book is clearly magical, and secondly is trying to glean as much information as she can from it before making herself known. She's in a completely unfamiliar world, acting hastily would be a poor move and she knows it.]
If there's anyone out there listening, my name's Amelia, I'm a knight from the Grado Empire. If anybody recognizes that name, please speak up.
[A short pause, leaving it there would be silly. It's clear to her she needs to find her way onto some kind of a crew, the sooner the better. If nothing else, she has a much better idea of what she's capable of now that she has a war under her belt.]
Either way, it seems like we're all expected to take to the seas, so I'm curious about who's recruiting. Although I've only been on a ship once before, I was in the army back home so I'm used to following orders and working with others. I'm not bad with a sword if it comes down to it either. Although I do wish I had my lance...
If there's anything more you'd like to know, just ask.

Either that or they've got a very experienced dredging crew.
What do you make of this place? Nobody I know has even heard of it or any of the surrounding regions.
[at least she managed to get her hands on a map]

Given nobody seems to have heard of the Grado Empire, I know wherever we are must be a truly long ways from home.
... that, and I'm talking to a book. You'll have to forgive me, this is still a little weird.

[a laugh] I just chalk it all up to magic. Best explanation there is. And if you don't like it, you just find the mage responsible and stab him.

[more of a mutter] Or I'm drunk out of my mind and I'm just imagining all this.

So Amelia, I'm Isabela. Well met. [maybe]
Do knights usually take to piracy so easily? [nobody legit would actually call themselves 'Scurvy Dog']
no subject
And I prefer not to think of it as piracy, I don't really intend to start looting towns left right and center, but it's pretty clear running around on my own is foolish, and I'm not going to learn anything sitting around in this town forever.

[smuggling vs. pillaging, that is]

From what I've learned so far, something tells me the Navy here doesn't especially care one way or the other.

Really, it's better to keep a low profile, if anything. [do as I say, not as I do]

Hey. Name's Captain Strider-[His entire crew has out right refused Cap'n Di-Stri, they clearly don't know what the the meaning of being cool is, so for now he'll be more professional on the matter.]-and I'm in the process of recruiting if you're in the market for a crew. We're at a small start now, but we'll be the best damned crew on the seas.
My only question would be if you've got experience teaching others how to wield a sword and if you've got patience to deal with some more eccentric types when necessary.
voice
It's nice to meet you, Captain Strider. I'll admit I haven't spent much time teaching others how to use a sword, but I think I know enough about handling one to take a stab at it, at least. Er... no pun intended. As for your second question... define eccentric. I knew some pretty interesting people back home, but that's gonna depend on just how eccentric we're talking.
voice
[Because honestly, it seems like he's already going to have his hands full with the few he's already gathered. Which brings up the question of just how to define eccentric.]
Nothing too out of hand. Just that some of the girls are just a little on the stubborn, sassy, strong headed, don't know the meaning of personal space or a combination of them. Nothing that's a problem, but I know there are some people who aren't used to dealing with others with certain personality traits. The most important thing about a crew is making sure to pick out personalities that don't clash too badly.
[Which he's already screwed up on, he's fairly sure of this. But they'll make it work, he has faith.]
voice
[It seems hasty to just jump on the very first crew she's offered, but she kind of likes this guys honesty about things. He seems confident without being stupid about it, and that's something she can appreciate in somebody who's essentially going to be her commander.]
You said you've got a small start going on, hopefully I'm not making too many assumptions here, but I'm guessing you got dragged here too from your home?
voice
[There's no use bullshitting people when he's trying to recruit, any major lies would be picked up pretty quickly after all. There's only so long you can hide shit from people when you're stuck on a boat with them.]
Yeah. There's five of us now, including me, and we're all new arrivals. There's a lot of other people already out on the seas that've been here for a couple months now, but most of them started the same place we are now, in the same situation. It's also important to note that the information about the gem has been proven to be true, to some degree. My research has provided me with the fact that a shard of it has already been discovered by one of the crews out there, so the statement that it's the only thing that can get us home might be true as well.
Re: voice
[Honesty is something she can appreciate, especially at a time like this where she's already up to her eyeballs in questions and confusion.]
So the gem's real...? Then I guess there's some truth to why we're here, but I still don't like this. Why would we all be brought here to find this gem? Still, it seems like our best bet for getting home. Or at the very least finding some answers, since it sounds like we're not the only ones out here.
voice
Whatever answers we need, we're not going to find them in this place. We've gotta hit the seas and go from there.
voice
Doesn't seem like the locals like to talk about it, either...

And even if there is some other catch in the fine print, I'm willing to take whatever consequences or prices there may be to pay so long as it works in the end.
voice
... wonder what the Navy's deal is?
voice
As for the Navy, it's like a fucking rule of thumb that that Navy wants to hang any and all pirates they get their hands on. And for some fucking reason or another, the asshole bringing us here wants us to be pirates so we automatically start off with the Navy hating us.
voice
So the Navy is just going to assume we're all pirates and have us killed anyways. I could try to negotiate with them on behalf of the Grado Empire, but seeing as nobody here recognizes that name I don't think that's going to work real well, much as I wish otherwise. [She may generally be somewhat optimistic, but even she can see that trying to negotiate with the Navy on the seas themselves is foolhardy at best.]
Do they just attack every ship they see out here and assume they're all pirates?
voice
I haven't gotten out on the seas yet, so my guess would be purely based on what I know about Navy vs Pirates. I'd say yeah, that's about how it goes. I heard from someone who's been out on the seas for a while that they're pissed off right now, so everyone should be careful regardless.
voice
On the other hand it isn't like she's swearing a blood oath to die in his name or anything, this is decidedly a lot less formal than joining the army or pledging loyalty to a lord. And he does seem to have some idea what he's talking about. Regardless of if she ends up staying on his ship or not, he seems like he could make for a reliable ally. Between that and staying in port until she gets kicked out... it's not that hard a decision to make.]
Sounds like it's going to be dangerous out there... but I can't very well sit here and wait forever. Count me in, Captain! [And there's a hint of excitement in her voice as well, all this exploration business... it honestly does sound like it could be quite exciting.]
