voice --- action on the ship
Nights like this reminds me of old tales I heard in the slums. Fox women and vengeful spirits, spider demons and ancient curses. The drowning girls, the old women mending clothing, the hoarse voices that lead children astray... We used to sit around a trash can, huddling for warmth while that guy told us things could be far worse than an empty belly.
When the moon was really huge and low in the sky, we would climb on the roof and he would tell us a story about the moon children. They lived on earth with the rest of the humans, small in numbers but fierce and brave warriors. One day the Moon left them in order to retrieve her mirror from her brother Sun. While she was away, she couldn't guide them and demons slowly took them over, changing them into monsters. Some shed their skins to become like animals, others thirst for the blood of their fellows. After a time, the demons' influence spread, tainting the humans and other races.
When the Moon came back and saw what had happened, she cried and called to those few that have yet to become cursed. They set out to kill the demons, though they slowly fell against the hoards until the only one left was the leader. He had been a kind, gentle man, but the demon's curse was turning him into a blood drinker. He used that strength - the strength of the curse and his own goodness to finally destroy the demons before he fell from his wounds.
This fog is bringing out the demon's curse. Question is - are you going to give in to the curse given you or are you going to fight it until you control it?
action
[after that little story, Sho closed the journal and went up to the crow's nest. but instead of going into the round bucket, he perched on the beam underneath and watched the moon. he was hungry and had been thinking about going to the island to hunt down some food, but with the way people have been behaving, he wasn't sure that it would a wise idea. there was no telling what the other people would do while he was away.
so he sat and smoked, sometimes humming a song under his breath.]
