[For those who are familiar with the night sky, the drawing that begins to form and starts this journal entry might make sense. Because that's exactly what it is--at least the major stars that Vyse can identify looking at his section of sky.

He's copying from a star map he bought stole soon after he arrived...not that anyone reading the entry can see it.

However, they can see his confused notes about said map--and the world in general.]

Never thought I'd have to relearn this stuff again.

Only one moon as far as I can tell, but I haven't been able to see any others. Not visible during the day. Silver.

[A small half-circle draws itself near a cluster of stars--before getting scribbled out, and then nothing is written or drawn for several minutes.

OoC: If you choose the 'action' option, you'll find Vyse up on a mast spar. Feel free to yell at him not to climb all over the masts.]

I tracked down a few astronomers back when my crew landed Himmelen. It proved helpful.

Do you know of any astronomers here? I don't know of any yet, and I haven't managed to get ahold of even books, let alone people.

Apparently the local ones mostly come from Himmelen. As for people amung us with an interest, I've been sharing notes with a man called Piers.

[He underlines the name, both the name Harlock had written and what he himself had repeated.]

How do I get in contact with him?

[Karen's handwriting appears way off to the side where she thinks it probably won't be in the way.]

Is there more than one moon where you're from?

[Write all over the map if you want, he put it in the wrong journal anyway.]

We've discovered six so far.

[Poor guy. That'll require a lot of copying.]

That's a lot for an inhabitable planet.

It is? Why's that?

I don't really know the specifics, but I haven't heard of a rocky planet having more than two moons. Gas giants can have much higher numbers, but you can't live on those.

[vysecaptain]

Well...

[He writes that, then stops for a minute, unsure what to say. He doesn't know a lot about Arcadia in an astronomical sense, and the world as a whole hasn't even been into space yet. All they know about their moons is that magic rocks fall from them periodically.]

I'm not sure what it is. What about gas giants makes them unlivable?

There's no surface, just atmosphere. If you tried to land on one, you'd just keep falling until the pressure was high enough to crush you.

I think that's what happens if you try to go beneath Lower Sky. That, or you get eaten by monsters...it depends on which sailor you ask.

[Okay, so there's probably an actual surface on Arcadia, but it's way way down there and no one's actually seen it, so it may as well not exist.]

*Selphie's out on deck with her journal under her arm. Time for some relaxing and reading about what everyone is up to. But as she's singing to herself she looks up to see someone sitting on the mast. She lifts her arm above her head and waves*

[He doesn't notice her at first, but then catches movement out of the corner of his eye and glances down. Then waves back once he does, nearly dropping the pen in his hand.]

*Selphie moves closer to the mast, still staring up at him*

What are you doing up there?

*And she waves again, just for effect*

*So she puts her journal carefully between her teeth and begins the climb up to meet him She loses her footing once or twice, but finally makes it*

[Of course, Vyse would find Ace seated along some of the ropes at the top of the masts.]

You comin' up to the crow's nest, Vyse?

[Oh good, he's not the only one perched up high. Hallo there Captain.]

I wasn't planning on it, but I can.

Well, what was your initial plan? [Ace turned himself a measure, looking at Vyse from the corner of his eye. He didn't lean too much, because then he'd fall.]

Uh...this was. Pretty much. But it's starting to get a little bit uncomfortable.

[Mostly because Ace distracted him. But now he's trying to decide whether to climb down or up.]
