[Handwritten] Field Notes + To-Do List
[Despite the madness that has been going on with the journals, Piers believes that he's found a discreet section of it where he can document his observations and short-term plans. Unfortunately, he's not well versed in how items like this work.
His handwriting is quick, scratched out as he collected his own thoughts, but still legible. Only the slant and the loops hint at his cultured roots, even though he's slowly been moving away from them.]
I.
The town is small and not particularly friendly, but the basic supplies are available. Must pick up:
Compass
Rule
Paper
Pen
Ink
Especially paper, pen, and ink.
Explored island. Animals are strange but not violent. There is more to chart later.
The stars are unfamiliar and the tide is strange. Also needs to be noted later.
Prorities:
Find Friends
If this 'ruby' is what I think, then they can't be far.
Also must find ship. Any. None are mine.
Find crew if friends aren't here.
[There is a pause as Piers gazed up at the stars, drawing the pen up to his lips as he thought.]
Need to find friends soon.

Why do we need figurines?
Re: Text
dollsaction figures?] They are potent sources of value and recreation. I don't expect to find any in the near future however; the local stalls have been disappointing. [Well except for on the actual survival and shipfaring front.] Is that really all you need to navigate the seas?Text
Binoculars, telescopes are also useful. If they can be acquired.
[He wasn't even going to touch the bit about the dolls...]

But these notes are useful and so she figures it can't hurt to try and contribute in her own way. Her handwriting is, in spite of how long they've been traveling, still more elegant than one would expect when they looked at her - a product of years of schooling in both Lalivero and Tolbi.]
- Unsalted water
- Nets, fishing lines
- Food that will keep well, since we don't know what the fish in these seas are like. Can we be sure they're safe?
[She sees no need for bandages and no need for fruits to stave off scurvy. That's what Psynergy is for, after all. It's just never been a concern for her.]

Kraden would be having a field day.]
-We won't know if the fish are edible unless we try. We will also need cooking materials. And salt. Clean water is necessary, but salt is also vitally important.
Never forget that.

There's lots of salt that'll be in the water around us th[The words appear, but are crossed out before she even finishes writing the sentence. Not everyone could use Parch, and they'd gone long enough without Piers having it that she doesn't think of it as a given the same way she thinks of Ply.]
Salt, then. And something to light fires with. Wood that isn't part of the ship, to make cookfires...
[Where was Jenna when they needed her? --oh, damn, not everyone would have a Mercury Adept around to put out any fires that got out of hand. Sheba frowns, and then hastily adds a few words.]
If that's safe.
handwritten
[Something small and metal, that could be contained and tossed overboard in an emergency. It was the only answer that he could think of.]
It's contained. A pot can be used
to boil down water until it is dry[He crossed out the last part. Boiling a pot dry would burn it in most conditions. At worst, that would cause a fire. Ships generally wouldn't have a complimentary combination of Adepts around to balance this, just in case the worst did happen.
Piers continued where he left off.]
--to possibly find an alternative method.
[Another moment of thought. They always did have Jenna around to at least heat up a metal plate to create ambient heat if it was necessary.]
Coals might be better.
[If they could find them. He didn't know where Felix was.]

The stars are different because this isn't your home world. I imagine the same could be said of the tide. And likely any almanac you have will be off by hours if not days.

If there aren't I will take time to study and draw up my own. We need it to properly navigate in the unknown.

We mustn't push them too hard. That will make interactions more difficult for the future.

Are you also a cartographer then?
Written
-Yes, I am a cartographer. I've practiced steadily for the past several months, and I wish to continue for as long as I am able.
Proper charts will likely be important on this sea. If none exist, I will make them.
Written
Several months isn't usually long for cartography, but it's certainly a good start.
[There's a pause and several starts that get completely crossed out and instantly inked over.] I hadn't even thought that charts could already be available here. I've spent so long on an ocean where they didn't really exist that I'd almost completely forgotten.
Written
[The fall of Mount Aleph, to his understanding. The shower of psynergy across Weyard.]
-The only charts I know are the ones that are out of date. I was tasked with redrawing them. It's why I only have months of practical experience, as there is no reason to map out your home if you've lived there for years.
[Decades. Centuries. Time was funny in Lemuria.]
That's why it's difficult for me to trust any that might already exist. No one knows when they were last updated.
