Minimizing the risk to anyone else. I keep a knife, alcohol to sterilize it, and bandages nearby, and he's under strict instructions to come to only me if he gets too hungry.

[Which is easy to write. He can hide the way his hand shakes at the thought. He isn't so sure he'd have his voice so controlled.]
