001 Written Introduction

I've heard a lot about this journal and how some of these things work, so I guess I will introduce myself. My name is Edward Elric, and like all of you, this isn't the world I'm from. 

I have every intention of going home in a relatively short amount of time. I'm not interested in going on a pre-designed treasure hunt to do it though. I don't think we should be just doing whatever these people 'Scurvey Dog' and 'Davy Jones say we should do. I don't know anything about sailing yet, but I'm about to pick up as many books as I can. I'm going to get a ship of my own, because I don't really want to follow this little 'game'. 

If this sounds agreeable to you and you want to sail with me, then by all means let me know. I'm sure my first mate Winry Rockbell and myself could use the help. You won't need to worry about food, Winry makes a really great apple pie.

Aside from that, I'm interested in hearing about these strange, other worlds. What can you tell me about where you come from?

Well I think it had already been going on for a few years by then.

A light year is the distance light travels in a year. [He can't recall exact numbers]

That's almost a relief. Although I guess I don't need to worry about that as long as I'm in this strange place.

I never gave it much thought, how far the stars are from us. I'm guessing it's pretty far. Have you been to a star before? What's it like?

[It must not be happening in his world hard to miss.]

The distance varieties. Closest is a little over 3 light years. It's sort of hard to get close to a star without a ship being destroyed by radiation and or gravity. Plenty of habitable planets in orbit around said stars worth visiting.

[You'd be surprised, very little outside news filters its way into Amestris. Or inside news for that matter.]

So you can't really go to a star, huh. How many planets have you been to? Is this possible this is just a different planet than we were on? If so, is it hard to leave a planet?

I've long lost count. It's very possible that we're on some other planet. It be very difficult to leave this planet. The technology doesn't exist here and even then distance is an issue.

Could you make the technology needed? Winry can make almost anything. She's a great mechanic. She might be able to help you with that. But she doesn't know about space travel.

What do you mean about distance?
