Dear PEOPLE WHO CAN'T REMEMBER BIRTHDAYS,
I suppose it's my fault, really. I failed to remind anyone this year, coupled with the minor detail that at this time last year I was on an entirely different crew.
Not to mention that most everyone who got me a present last year is no longer around.
But regardless, my birthday passed three days ago. I'm seventeen now! It's rather depressing to think I've had two birthdays in this place, though.
Our numbers are dwindling rapidly, aren't they? Honestly, it feels as though there can't be more than twenty of us here. I'm know I'm useful and an extremely valuable asset to have around, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised that bloody pirate has kept me here for so long.

P.S. It's never too late for presents. Or birthday parties. I'm just saying.

[voice]
Yanno if you ya want a party ya gotta tell people you want a party. Like I'd say no to that!
[voice]
[SIGHS.]
But I guess I should expect as much from a captain who's so clearly a Gryffindor.
[...He is actually kidding. Who knows whether that's evident in his tone or not, though.]
[voice]
...wait, I'm a what?
no subject
Anyway, I said you're a Gryffindor. Surely I've mentioned as much before? [He can't even remember who all he's yammered at already regarding the Hogwarts houses.] Hm, perhaps it was just Cynthia.
no subject
[hahaha...ha...]
[Action]
But when the galley is finally opened up, there's a chocolate cake sitting on the table. Does Draco even like chocolate cake? WHO DOESN'T.]
[Action]
He's also rather surprised when he wanders into the galley and finds it sitting there. Enough so to make him pause suddenly and glance warily around. MAYBE IT'S A TRICK—
Oh, no, there's Gaius.
Draco blinks at him.]
...You felt like having cake?
[Making no assumptions whatsoever over here.]
[Action]
When do I not?
[The thief grins lopsidedly as he looks up from where he's doing dishes.]
...but I heard there was a special occasion we missed.
[Action]
You didn't have to.
[Even though he just guilt-tripped everyone over the journal. Shhh.
He takes a step closer to where the cake is, eying it hungrily. Mmm, smell that chocolate in the air~]
It looks brilliant, though. Cheers, mate!
[Action]
[He nods towards the knife beside the cake dish, and after drying off his hands, grabs a few plates from the cupboard. He sets them on the table.]
You're the birthday boy, you do the honors.
Voice
[His tone is completely innocent.]
Hey, I know! I'll be there in a minute with your present!
[He knows in his little box he has a green seashell somewhere.]
Voice
[Wait, no, that's rude. Draco coughs.]
Or rather -- well, you weren't traditionally born and all that, right? I suppose you could have a 'pop suddenly into existence' day.
...
In any case... When was it? Did you let anyone know? You have to be diligent about these things, you realize. Like me. Otherwise you can't expect people to remember!
[TRUTH BE TOLD, the reason Draco didn't tell anyone is because...he didn't actually realize the date himself... But, you know. Details.]
Voice
[He scratches his head.]
I guess, but, I don't know when that was either.
It was in January. January 6th. See? I'm two and a half now!
[Clearly he's not that upset about it.]
It's okay, I forget lots of stuff.
Voice
[Right. Draco vaguely remembers a pink pony. On Luffy's crew, if he's not mistaken.]
Well, you can't complain if you forgot. [Says the guy who also forgot. His tone turns skeptical.] Two and a half...? That's ridiculous.
[True, sure, but still ridiculous. The kid looks sixteen.]
You've been through kind of a lot in your two and a half years, haven't you?
Voice
I guess so, it's kind of weird all that stuff I've done. Fun though, some of it. What...did I count it wrong or something?
[He isn't sure what's so ridiculous about that.]
Voice
You probably counted right, it'll just never not seem strange to me. But no matter. You said something about a present?
[IMPORTANT THINGS.]
Voice -> Action
Right! Present!
[He runs up the stairs and promptly finds Draco.]
Hi! Here! [He holds out a green seashell that he pulled out of his box. He's very proud of this gift.]
Action
[Muttered under his breath, but he figures it probably goes unheard through the journal as Roxas comes running up to him instead.
And holds out...a shell.
Draco stares at it for a long moment, and then blinks.]
...It's green.
[Faintly surprised. Though he could've just gotten lucky, but if Roxas actually managed to remember his favorite color then Draco is rather touched.]
Action
You said you liked green before, right?
[He did remember. He's good at associating a few things to people like colours in case he needs to find them a seashell present.]
[Written]
Hey, at least you reminded us? I guess?
[Written]
because of mun fail. It's just bloody bizarre, really, seeing them so much older and such. He's used to Hiccup being a little twig of a thing....Well, he's still kind of a twig. Ish.
Okay, or just skinny.
Thin.
Whatever.
Isn't he supposed to be a viking? Where are the big burly muscles and all that? Shouldn't he have grown some after being gone for however long it was?
But he's a lot taller now, at least. Taller than Draco.
...ANYWAY.
Draco eventually picks up his quill to reply.]
Thank you.
Truth be told, I forgot myself. I didn't even realize the date. Do you know how difficult it is too keep a calendar out here? Most days feel the same when we're sailing. It's as though I'm using a Time-Turner each night to set things back.
[...Might as well let his ridiculousness show right from the start, just in case Hiccup doesn't remember Draco much. 8|]
[Written]
Plus if he weighed more, then Toothless would have a hard time flying with him on his back but that's all dragon rider technicality, not important here.]
No problem.
Yeah, I think I know the feeling. It kind of happens when you're in the air, too. I got thrown off again when I got back here.
[Much appreciated since he sort of remembers some of Draco's mannerisms.
Getting his memories back in gear has been tricky upon his return. Just confusing Draco's name with Drago made him do a double-take. Spending the other parts of his time looking at what he had left over in the ship made it even trippier.]
[Written]
[He actually feels a little bad that it's taken him this long to check. Really, he should pay Toothless a visit soon, too. He misses the beast.]
How old are you now, anyway? It looks as though a good several years must have passed for you back in your world.
[Written]
[Just as bad as he feels for not recognizing his own crew right off the bat?]
Let's see...it's been about five years, yeah. So I'm twenty now.

Well, I wish you a happy birthday.
