People keep going missing out of thin air and I think that's kinda bullshit. I know it's nothing new, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. It's like, hey here's this guy that you've known for a long as time and then poof! He's gone. And what the fuck is with Davy Jones bringing people here and then sending them away like he's getting bored of them?

[Dave pauses mid-rant. This is bothering him more than the casual tone of his voice lets on.]

Not like it hasn't happened to me before. I guess we all get ousted eventually. That's no excuse for it though. You never know if or when someone's gonna come back.

At least the last time I saw him was cool. He told me how to make a good cup of tea and I made one for him. Cuz he was tiny.

He was one of the first guys I met.

Well, maybe not one of the very first, but he was here for a long time. I never really thought he would leave.

Yeah, he was the First Mate. I guess Grell's gonna have to choose a new one now, or just leave the position unfilled. I could do it, but I'm not sure I wanna.

[It would be too much like taking his place. Dave always wanted to be First Mate. He was sort of jealous of Arthur, honestly. But he doesn't want it if it means his friend is gone.]

Well, it'd make sense for you to do it. You're literally her mate, heheheh. I understand your reluctance though...just doing the job might remind you of Arthur and how much it sucks he's gone.

It doesn't really matter either way. I'm sure she'll pick whoever she thinks is best for the job.

I guess I'm feeling pretty apathetic about it. Can't be bothered to give a shit one way or the other.

It's like, why bother getting close to anyone because we're all just gonna fade away eventually.

But I guess it's not meaningless though because I'm still glad I met everyone. I don't know what I'd do if I never met you, or Arthur, or Grell, and just thinking about that makes me sad as fuck.

I know what you mean. After losing the only few people that mattered to me in my world, I felt the same way at first. Screw getting close to people, it only causes a crapload of pain when they're gone. But I find I...just can't live happily by myself, detached from others. It doesn't hurt so much I want to kill myself, but it doesn't feel like living, either.

Yeah, it's hard to be happy when you're alone, but it's also hard when you lose people. There really isn't any answer. You've just gotta take a chance because if you don't then you don't have anyone and that sucks.

Yeah...[he got a little quieter] I've lived most of my life alone. The time just flew by and I wondered why I continued to survive at all...there was no purpose and no happiness.

There are a lot of things you can do by yourself that have meaning, but at the end of the day it's kinda sad when you've got no one to share it with.

[He's sort of agreeing. Dave doesn't think there's no purpose, but he's definitely a lot happier when he's not alone.]

Hm... I'd have to rethink the way I lived if I ever went back to my world. I don't think much I did had meaning....[he thought a moment] well, there was this time I saved a kid girl from pirates. I guess that had meaning to her at least.

Still, I getcha. Not a lot of sense in Jones' moves, most of the time.

It's like, shit. Is this guy for real? Kidnapping us for his entertainment or whatever, but then nothing he does makes any goddamn sense. People come and go without any rhyme or reason, random battles happen, and he doesn't do jack shit. It's like he's bored and lazy.

Davy Jones is an overweight slob lounging on his sofa, flipping through the channels 'cause there's nothing good on, but he can't be bothered to get up and grab his own beer. I guess we gotta do that for him too.

I know! If he really wants us to get the shards for 'im, he needs to stop takin' away the best manpower for the job. He can get his own damn beer, either send us all home or stop messin' around.

Exactly. Can't work without a full crew and it's kinda hard to put one together when no one's around. He's like one of those managers at Burger King who keeps firing people, and then the few guys left have to do the work of two or three people, but he won't hire more guys because he's a cheap ass chump.

And you know they never give you full time work, let alone overtime because nobody wants to pay for the benefits. Forget health insurance, sick days, or any kind of pto because it's never gonna happen.

[yeah okay Dave whatever. He gets the gist, though, because who hasn't gone into battle with too few men? Really.]

Makes ya wonder what he actually wants from us, if we're that expendable. Sendin' us home or killin' us, either way.

I dunno, maybe he gets his rocks off making people disappear. But if he does then I don't want to know. Talk about tmi.

Shit, they're dropping like flies. How does Davy Jones expect us to get anything done under these conditions? Fuckin' asshole just can't get his shit straight.

Ok, but even if that's true, this is shitty entertainment. I should know because I make shitty movies for a living. But even my movies weren't this bad. On some level you've gotta realize that making people randomly disappear makes zero sense and seriously interferes with everyone's ability to give a fuck.

There's always going to be someone who likes watching people fail. Maybe that's where he's getting his jollies.
