voice/action for the crew of the Merrily

[he had been sleeping in the crow's nest like he sometimes did when he thought Zoro and Sanji wanted to do stuff on their own and had woken up when the early morning sunlight had fallen on his cheek. He'd blinked at the bubble hovering right in front of him.

Popping it got him a mouthful of foam... but when that had cleared away...he was different.

But not unfamiliar.

Luffy looks at his brown hands back to front, peers at his watery reflection in the window and realizes something amazing has happened. He scrambles frantically for his journal and then opens it on his lap, trying to think up what to say.

When he starts, the voice is probably completely unfamiliar to most people, but that doesn't matter]

Yo! I'm Us--uh The Great Usopp! I'm the man whose going to be the bravest warrior in the sea! And today is my birthday! I'm really awesome and a great liar and have done lots of stuff when I was five years old! Like fighting giant lobsters.

You don't gotta give me any presents but you should definitely know who I am because everyone misses me when I'm not here...

But even if I'm not here I can still have a great birthday, right?

[hahaha yeah about that, Luffy...

Zoro has not really gotten much sleep thanks to the rude awakening at four in the morning and is in his own hammock. He might also be checking the journal in case others are waking up changed like the cook and want to scream about it.]

Wh...Usopp?!

[Even Zoro was tricked! Wow, he must be really good at this.]

Right now! I just came in and my arms hurt!

[he laughs at his own joke and happily claps his feet together]

[but it'll look weird if he just shows up in the crow's nest so he kicks open the hatch and scrambles down to the nav]

[but he's getting up, now, tossing aside the journal in order to go out and say happy birthday to Usopp in person. Yep. Trudging out of the men's cabin, shirtless and barefoot and not even giving two fucks. Or noticing that Luffy isn't tackling anyone this morning either.]

Anyway, who cares?! It's Uso-- It's my birthday so lets have a party! [claps his hands over his head] Comon' Zoro, even you've gotta dance and stuff!

[huh? How the fuck does Usopp know about that...?

Blinking owlishly in the sunlight.]

It's too early for a party. Make the cook make breakfast or something.

[he goes a little stiff, thinking of 'the cook,' but no blushing.]

Aww but I want a party. [boo] We'll have one later.

[he does a happy cartwheel on deck which just ends up with him tumbling on his butt]

Ahh this is great! Except I can't see me. [which sucks]

[oh but wait. He knows! fist!palm]

Hey, Zoro! Pop a bubble. Something interesting might happen.

[does this look like the face of someone suspicious?]

[still not catching on. But at the mention of the bubbles, his eye instantly narrows.]

What do you mean, pop a bubble?

[of course, now it occurs to him that weird shit happened last year on Usopp's birthday. Really weird shit. He shoots the bubbles floating around them that same suspicious look, which might be turning a little murderous.]

Boooo change your mind, Zoro. [grabs his arm] Come on, it's fun.

[yanks his arm away quickly, and then squints around, trying to make sure there are no bubbles close enough to touch]

...you're not Usopp. Who are you?

I'm Luffy! I popped a bubble! [but was he still him him? Let's find out! He grabs his nose and finds that it stretches even longer] Seeeee?

[pokes Zoro with it.]

So you should pop one, too. [poke poke poke poke]

Ugh. Luffy.

[hopes dashed, fears realized. Please witness the green-crested marimo noping off to Fuckthatistan, now. Or, well, back to the men's cabin.]

I'm going back to bed.

Wait wait wait. Hold on! [grabs Zoro's waist and digs in to try to stop him] I need you to do something important!

What?

[a might snappish. He's got his good eye on those bubbles so as not to touch one. So help him Luffy if you pop one on him you will be dead in the next five seconds.]

[Puff. It's Usopp's birthday why do you have to be so grumpy? Well he's going to enjoy it anyway.]

Wait a second.

[he clambers back up to the crow's nest, then jumps down again and gives Zoro the hat]

I'm gonna be Usopp for a while so you look after it.

[...oh. That.

Breathes a quieter sigh to let go of some of his anger and takes the hat, holding it to his chest.]

All right.

[now if you'll excuse him, he would like to reacquaint himself with his hammock. It's been a while.]

[he only looks gloomy for a second before he rights back up and goes to grab his fishing gear! It's gonna be hard work being Usopp but he'll do his best!]

[EXPLODES OUT OF THE GALLEY because yes, cake, indeed, even when he'd rather hide underneath a blanket all day. BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR MISSING NAKAMA FIRST.]

Usopp?!

[Looks around wildly, whisk still in his hand, before remembering that if Usopp just suddenly showed up in this world, he'd probably be back on Isla Empieza.

Sanji's shoulders droop.]

Aww... Damn, I thought— Mah, well, never mind.

[Turns to head back into the kitchen.]

[Sanji! Luffy frowns at the shoulder slumping and slides down the mast to bang open the door of the galley with one hand]

I'm ready for my birthday breakfast! Make sure it's really big!

[there's a beat before he sits at the table, kicking his feet]

Na, but, Sanji, why are you wearing your boob pillow?

[and another beat]

Did you get a butt pillow too?

[reaches out to poke]

[ALSKJDHAJKLS!!!!

Sanji squeaks and jumps, spinning around to automatically lash out with his foot.

But his balance is off and his mind is out of sorts, so it doesn't have his usual strength behind it and he ends up stumbling anyway to catch himself.]

Oi, hands off, shitty long nose! No touching! I—

[Pauses.

Stares.

Blinks.

...Then frowns.

Sure looks like Usopp. But as much as Sanji wants to flail at him (embarrassingly) for being there, he refrains. And just gives him a suspicious look.]

That butt pillow is even softer!

[he holds up a hand in greeting]

Yo. I'm Luffy but...somehow I'm mysteriously Usopp today. So I'm gonna keep pretending to be him for a while. This way we can have a really great party!

Then blinks again and does something of a double take.]

Luffy?? What the hell, how—?

[But oh. Wait. It's Usopp's birthday. Weird and uncomfortable shit happened on his birthday last time, too.

Sanji squints, then sighs and pushes a hand through his hair, trying not to look too disappointed. It's really weird, though... Seeing Usopp's younger face. Fuck, it's been a long damn time since he's seen that Usopp.]

...Luffy, huh? Don't worry, we'll have a shitty great party. No doubt about that.

It's okay right? [because he's not sure, even if he thinks its cool. He picks his nose absently but it's a lot harder to jam his finger in there. Usopp's nose is really weird]

I can pop another bubble if you want... After a while.

[Now that he knows it's not actually Usopp. It's kind of good to see him again anyway. Just...odd.

He forces a grin.]

Nah, stay like that for awhile. No telling what might—wait. A shitty bubble did this?

Yeah! [he hops up to sit on the table, kicking his feet] I popped one and then I was Usopp!

It's pretty cool, huh?

[Insta-scowl as he gestures sharply at his body.]

There ain't nothing cool about this. You think if I pop another bubble, I might change back?

[...Or maybe he'd just turn into female Usopp. SIGH.]

But I thought you liked boobs. And now you can play with those whenever you want. [what's the problem? He scratches his head at the question and then starts absently pulling at the tightly wound curls just to watch them spring back which makes him laugh]

Usopp is so cool. [boing. boing. boing]

But I dunno. You can try. Maybe you'll turn into a squid. That would be cool.

[Pales a little, bringing a hand up to cover his chest almost defensively.]

...I like 'em on other people. GIRLS. Not on me! They're just weird when they're -- you know. Mine.

A squid would not be cool. A squid would be fuckin' terrible. Besides, who'd cook for you, then?

[Scowls, turning to yank open the fridge. He then proceeds to stare blankly at everything inside, just grumbling away.]

And I wouldn't have hands, I'd have a bunch of useless shitty tentacles. Geez. [And then suddenly:] Hey, if I give you something with mushrooms in it, will you eat it?

[...You know. For science.

Possibly he wants to find out if Usopp actually dislikes them or if he's just a stubborn shithead.]

[laughs at Sanji's slip up]

I don't think you'd be tasty anyway. But you could learn to wrap the tentacles around things. Keimi could probably teach you. [nod nod]

[he grins at the thought of the food]

Okay! As long as there's meat in it. [claps his feet together] And something to drink!

[Then he sighs and drops his hand again, before reaching into the fridge to start pulling ingredients out.]

Yeah but maybe she has friends. She can talk to fish right? And yeah that sounds good.

Not really much to stir if I'm doing an omelet and not scrambling 'em. Eh, but I guess you can whisk the eggs before they go in the pan.

[Though Sanji cracks them all first... It's not that he doesn't trust Luffy not to get a whole bunch of shell pieces in the mix, but -- okay, no, it's exactly that.]

[Hands him the bowl and a whisk, before moving to get the rest prepared.]
