Happy New Year [voice] [action for Hazmats]
So I missed it by a day or so, but the moon don't lie. It's a new year.
Funny, to watch time just keep on keepin' on no matter what world we're in.
It's tough, when you're so far from home on holidays for family and friends, but I got a crew I wouldn't trade for the world, so I guess we're gonna have a little new year's party tonight. Maybe the food won't be the same and there's a few faces I'll really miss, but it's still worth it. More'n worth it, we're all alive and well, and 'round here that's all I can ask for.
[he signs off with a set of characters in his own home dialect, which, by whatever means the journal translates, will say Gong Xi Fa Cai. Happy Lunar New Year from the Han Dynasty.]

[Akshun!]
Don't know what's the typical fare for the occasion, but I learned how to make a pretty good seafood pasta dish from that chef guy with the Straw Hats.

Yeah? So it was worth it, eh?
New Year's is a time for big feasts for good luck and prosperity, and I wouldn't mind a little more prosperity if yanno what I mean. So if it ain't trouble, we oughta roast a whole fish, and a whole chicken, oh and noodles - super long rice noodles for a good long life. Dumplings, too, gotta have dumplings.
...shrimp's good too, but it ain't new year's without dumplings and the fish. And cake.

[A laugh.]
Well, we're surrounded by ocean so fish and shrimp shouldn't be a problem.

But really, I'm just happy to have everybody together, sittin' together and lookin' ahead to what might come. Past year's been pretty crazy, who knows what's ahead for us.
no subject
Yeah, me too. Things have sure kept us on our toes, but we're still pushing on. And we'll keep doing it so long as we're here.
no subject
How're we doin', anyway? I gotta ask Cyn what's up with our treasure stores. Everything else okay?
no subject
Think so. Our pantry's managed to survive since I distracted the Bottomless Pit with pie and fish jerky when he paid a visit.
no subject
That's good, at least. One less stock-up trip we gotta take. I didn't get anything at Himmelen, did you?
no subject
Nope.

Anyway. Just wanna keep an eye on things. Dunno where we should go next, we've hit a lot of the most interesting islands already. And we've spent enough time at Empieza to know how boring it is.
no subject
Yeah, I gotcha. I'm not sure where we should head next either, but it's not too bad taking it easy for a while, at least.
no subject
[dumb grin. Let's look for sunshine!]

Guess I got some fishin' to do, now.
no subject
Think I'll join you in that. Nothing much to be preparing when there's nothing yet to cook.
no subject
...just keep Gongji out of the bait.
no subject
-right. Maybe we should get a cover for it or something. Well, come on.

[and looking over his shoulder for the annoying rooster. That little bastard could pop up anywhere, at any time.]

What, you need an excuse to party?

Don't tell me your, uh, 'Vikings,' don't have festivals for the new year?

What, that's the name! Sort of like that Christmas thing everyone else talks about?
no subject
Oh yeah? I see. Yeah, we don't have that, just, oh look it's solstice, that means the new year's comin'. Though it's not as snowy where I come from as it is here, in the winter.
no subject
Snow and ice make up half of our living conditions back at home. But huh, that's weird. The New Year thing sounds like it's a pretty hectic time for you. Maybe that's why there's nothing between that and the solstice?
