I am, generally speaking, loathe to spread damning, one-sided and poorly verified information about a single person which could result in an ill-informed manhunt. I have learned a few things recently, however, which have convinced me that perhaps, in this particular case, the information is better known and debated than unknown.

Reasons:

Several months ago, the Corpse King ambushed a specific transport ship and killed the occupants- not through his usual powders and poisons, which aren't a pleasant way to go, I'm sure- but by cutting their beating hearts out of their chests. Also of note: the ship was in the employ of a certain orphanage. They that lost their hearts were children.

In some ancient religions native to this world, it seems to have been a common belief that blood is a source of power. Taking blood from the source of the power- the beating heart, which provides us all with life sustaining rhythm- was specifically regarded as the single most vile of sins and unforgivable. There are records of men committing such an act. They become literal monsters.

Another school of thought existent in certain Isles which may or may not still exist is that each living being has a set amount of energy. When our stores run out, we naturally die. If a person is killed through some unfortunate means, the extra energy is freed from mortal confines and becomes wild. It seeks other bits of wild energy, and eventually they become strong enough to take corporeal form once again. This is their explanation for many of the supernatural beings and events which we've become accustomed to while sailing these seas.

Hawtrey may not be working alone. I am not certain who his ally might be, or if he has one at all, but there seems to be another providing him with knowledge. All I can say with surety is that it is not nor was it Scurvey Dog- at least if her spitting ire in response to several taunting messages sent from him through his journal are to be believed. He also seems to be under some kind of protection. We already knew he's been aggressively hunting shards.  It is clear he believes that he has awakened several shards through sacrifice.

Putting those several points together into the same narrative doesn't take much effort, I should think, and so I will not waste time spelling it out.  I can give sources for this information, but would prefer to do so in private, though any and all questions are welcome.  I understand that collectively, we are still divided in opinion as to whether or not we "outsiders" ought to meddle in the affairs of this world.  But it seems this world has been, historically speaking, unable to save itself from the darkness that roils just below the surface.  There are several gaps in reliable documentation, which are filled only with mythology intimating something sinister.  Perhaps we, as outside observers, are better poised to see what's coming, and therefore we find ourselves with the ability to choose our course rather than simply be dragged along an unknown current.

Let us choose to move, and perhaps this world will not suffer yet another cataclysm.

Well that depends on how much of themself they're leaving behind if ya know what I mean. If he was bleeding or something I could find that a month later. If he rubbed himself on stuff like some animals do, the scent might stick around a good while too. But if he's just walking trough an area not leaving much, then no, I wouldn't be able to track him a month later.
