So this is how everyone's been communicating then?

Not to sound paranoid or anything but the last magically enchanted diary I wrote in that could write back tried to kill me so I'm just a bit skeptic.

But, I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask, where exactly am I?

[ And in that instant, Harry's wand is out too. ]

It's a name Malfoy. Or would you prefer I refer to him as Tom Riddle?

I'd prefer you shut up about him altogether or we're never going to get anywhere! We're meant to be back at Hogwarts tomorrow, you know, and we've got our O.W.L.s this year—I'd really rather not miss too many classes due to your being a stubborn arse!

[ ...Well that causes him to lower his wand a bit. ]

...No. It's the twelfth of August. We don't go back to school until the first.

...Don't be stupid, it's the thirty-first.

[But he lowers his wand slightly, too, his eyes narrowing.]

Oh...you've finally gone round the bend, haven't you? I knew it was only a matter of time.

No, I had my-Er, something important that I was supposed to go to today. It's the twelfth.

Your er something. [Lets his arm drop altogether as he thinks back.] From the twelfth? ...You're sure you're not just taking the piss?

Positive, Malfoy. But it's none of your concern what I had to do today.

Oh no, of course not. [Grins and turns to continue walking.] No concern of mine at all. I've no idea what big, important thing you had to do on August twelfth.

[ Damn it. Malfoy's dad works at the ministry and probably told Malfoy junior. Malfoy knows about the hearing. ]

Doesn't matter. And apparently, neither do confidentiality laws.

Well, Father was simply keeping me informed about how a classmate was doing, you can hardly blame him. [Glances back at him.] But I'm surprised to hear you say it doesn't matter. I had no idea you were so indifferent about your future at Hogwarts, Potter.

[ He just rolls his eyes-he could argue that, maybe, but it'll either lead to the Weasleys getting insulted or bringing up the fact he was raised by muggles who would also get insulted. Not that he minds occasional insults to the Dursleys, but he'd rather Malfoy know as little as possible about his life with the muggles. ]

I'm not indifferent- [ No really, the last thing he wants is to go back to private drive full time. ] -I just don't want to discuss it with you. Besides, what else was I supposed to do? Let the dementors suck out mine and my cousin's soul?

...Actually, don't answer that.

I'm surprised you managed to do anything that didn't involve fainting, actually.

[Yeah, he's painfully aware that Harry can cast a Patronus, but this is him casually ignoring that!

Also, he slows to a stop again, frowning.]

...Why am I almost three weeks ahead of you?

[ He would have commented on that but Malfoy has a point-a very valid one at that, Harry isn't someone that could disappear for three weeks and no one ask questions about where he'd gone. Even if most of the wizarding world is convinced he's a liar. ]

...I dunno. If I was missing that long I'm sure the prophet would've had a field day.

I, for one, would have thrown a party. But no, you weren't missing. Or if you were, someone kept it very hush-hush. [Scowls.] Probably Dumbledore.

I guess that is possible-but it would be rather hard to hide when I didn't turn up for my hearing. I suppose we won't know unless anyone I was staying with turns up.

[Makes a show of shuddering.]

Merlin, please no. You're more than enough, the last thing I need is another from your lot showing up to make my life just that much worse.

I'm not actually trying to make your life worse Malfoy. Actually, I'd just as soon leave you alone altogether but I can't exactly do that.

So I suggest, you get over your muggle hating otherwise life is going to get that much worse. I dunno, maybe this will be good for you.

[ Explaining just how annoying he actually find all the 'Famous Harry Potter' crap to Draco Malfoy is not a thing he wants to do. And he certainly isn't going to bring up the night his parents died because it'd be like walking into a land mine of things for Malfoy to bring up that would get under his skin. Better to avoid it all together. ]
