Nightblogging [voice/action for Spades]

[Vyse's voice sounds bored at the moment. Makes sense, because he is. He's lounging in the crow's nest with a candle on one side of him and a pile of papers on the other--not that anyone browsing the journal can see, but someone below might notice the candle's glow. Anyway, none of that is important aside from Vyse trying to work on his star chart some more.]

Hoy, is anyone out there awake? I can't be the only one.

If so, you should go on deck...or outside, if you're onshore, and look up at the sky. It's clear enough tonight, you should be able to see most of it.

You don't have to, but it's nice to look at.

[A few seconds of pause, then:]

But I also have a question. Whatever world you left to get here...what do you miss most about it? I myself miss the sky. There's nothing wrong with sailing on a water ocean, but it's not exactly the same.

On a water ocean? What other sort of ocean would a person sail on?

[He realizes that this is likely some difference between worlds, and is curious.]

One made of air. That's what the seas are made of back home. Most of our water comes from lakes much, much smaller than this ocean.

Hm. And you sail on it?

[Link does love learning about the other "worlds." They are all so unlike his own, desolate and lying in ruin.]

I had never even seen an ocean of water, when I first came here.

Aye...In it, on it, through it...however you prefer to say it. That's the only way to get anywhere, with airships. As far as I know, no human has learned to fly.

Or tame an arcwhale.

[He laughs at little.]

I hadn't either. Before this, all I've ever seen were lakes and rivers...nothing as big as this.

I have flown, but never on a flying ship. Though some people who were on our crew were familiar with them.

What have you flown in or on before? I know there's birds big enough to carry humans...balloons, dirigibles...one of those flying brooms Malfoy mentioned?

[Anything sound familiar? He could start going into animals native to his world: turtles, squid, whales, giant butterflies...]

On a great bird, yes. It is anything but common in my home world, but it was... a very particular moment, you could say.

[yawns. He just woke up an is lying on the figurehead, staring at the stars, voice a bit muffled as the book is resting on his face]

I miss Franky and Chopper and the Sunny. [the most. He missed other stuff, too, but not as much. This was an adventure just as much as that was]

[Ace, you have a hammock/storage room/designated spot in the rafters, go sleep there, not on the figurehead.]

Franky and Chopper...are friends, right? And the Sunny is a ship, I'm guessing.

...Is that you, Cap'n?

[he laughs.]

I'm a captain but I'm not yours. And yeah, they're nakama. The Thousand Sunny is my ship at home. It's really cool and it has a lawn deck and a swing.

[but...]

Merrily's a good ship, too. [he pets the dragon's neck] She's carried us a long way. I wonder if she has a voice yet.

[He laughs as well. Oops.]

Haha, sorry! I guess I'm more tired than I thought, your voice sounded like Ace's.

[Probably because it was muffled by the book.]

I've got a ship back home as well. She's called the Delphinus...she doesn't have a lawn deck or a swing...yet. I wouldn't put it past any of the crew to suggest those as an upgrade at some point...

...What about the ship having a voice?

[that's kind of cool. He wouldn't mind sounding a little like Ace. He shifts, putting the book on his stomach but away from the bandages. Then he folds his arms behind his head, props his ankle on his knee and looks up at the stars and the sliver of moon]

That's a cool name for a ship. Like a Dolphin right? [it's what it sounds like... but he nods]

When you're really close to a ship and you go on lots of adventures and it's really close nakama, it gets a voice. But I think it only speaks when it really needs to.

[he hadn't heard it very well. It had all been blood and noise and trying to get up when he couldn't even move. He'd heard Usopp. He'd heard the others and then the voice-- and he'd known what it was. Going Merry. Helping them out one last time]

[He shifts some papers around in the nest--moving the journal into his lap and blowing out the candle for the time being. Luffy can probably hear the puff as he does that.]

That's what I've been told. I'd never seen a dolphin--supposedly they disappeared long ago. I don'r know if I've seen one here yet.

...I don't think the Delphinus has a voice. Not yet. She's a great ship, but I've had her for less than a year...maybe we're not close enough.

That would be a rather hard thing to answer, there are many things to miss.

Though, I think the thing I miss most is the reminders of a life lived.

Reminders of a life lived? What's that mean exactly? Memories?

I suppose for me I miss my companions and the constellations in my home world's night sky. It is still strange to see a sky that doesn't have a large moon constantly in the same position.

Same here. I'm still working on memorizing the stars and constellations here. Sometimes I make up my own when I can't remember them.

[He laughs a little.]

Have you made up any interesting ones?

Interesting? Not really...I discovered a group of stars that look like a squid if you look at it the right way...it could be part of something else, but I think the star squid is more interesting.

I miss...

[Being able to touch Raava without feeling like he was being ripped apart. Being able to travel beyond a single ship before his powers fade away. Mula.]

...my friends. I couldn't see them even if I was back there, but I miss even just visiting the places they touched. I have nothing to remind me of them here. Just my own memories.

Except for Mula. She's an animal, but still my friend.

Why do you miss the sky?

Sailing on the water's not the same as it is in the air. Very similar, but the ships here don't require a fuel source to stay afloat on the water, and they're not capable of changing altitude.

But at least I'm getting better at swimming.

I can fly when I couldwalk, but... that's not the same. A ship that could sail the sky... That's amazing.

There are routines that I miss, such as attending school.

Indeed. School is simply a part of a proper upbringing! A lady must be educated and well-learned.

I also miss the martial arts tournaments that my team and I competed in.

One of my crew back home is a martial artist. She called herself that.

That's a different thing altogether. You can be a martial artist without being a shinobi.
