Another month, another strange bit of magic.

[Really, he can't even be surprised. He's not happy, but he's not surprised. Of course, this is completely inconvenient. Hopefully it will be done before June. They're supposed to be open for business then.]

As with many of you, from what I've noted over the journals, my ship is dealing with small children.

I am not of a good temperament to deal with children nor do I have any experience caring for children.

Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If they have a favorite food, you can try to use that to get them to come to you and get them to trust you if they're scared.

I don't think anything can frighten a Hitachiin.

Try and bend down to their level when you can. They can get intimated easily.

I think it's important to make them feel safe, especially if they're scared. Letting them know that everything's going to be alright.

This happens every month?

Patience. Beyond that, it depends on the child and the age I imagine.

Then you should be partway to success. I didn't act up much as a kid, so I can't help a lot. Oh, but I can say that kids are curious and will challenge you if they get a chance.

I'm quite certain that will happen.

The children in question are people I know quite well as their older selves. Therefore, knowing them as they should be and knowing about them as they grew up, I can assume a few things that will come.

However, what I lack is knowledge of how to handle what is coming.

I have been repeatedly told that the method I was raised with is inappropriate, and I'm sure I will have to answer for my actions once they are themselves again.

A child who challenged my father received a smack across the face. It proved quite effective.

Oh... Hm, well, it's probably not as bad as what my father would have done. Although, admittedly, he's not very well respected.

Perhaps some form of time-out instead?

It's not bad at all, not, at least, as far as I'm concerned. However, my friends have argued before when I employed it, so I imagine it would be particularly unwelcome against them.

I'm not sure what else to suggest. My childhood is probably not considered very normal, to be honest, in these parts.
