[Normally, Vyse's handwriting is fairly neat, or at least legible. Today, not so much. He's using a dip pen + inkwell, and it's apparent to those who are familiar with one, because he's leaving blotches of ink on the pages as he writes.]

So the crew's received a three-month ban from Miss Dog's information entries. Which could be worse...thankfully it's not a year or longer.

Still.

She could've at least just banned the people bothering her instead of the full crew. Leave it to a few people to ruin it for the rest. ~~Sometimes I wonder if I've even joined the right crew.~~

[The writing stops there, after a couple splotches of ink appear.

Yeah no kidding. I don't think it's fair at all.

[Sora pauses to grumble and roll over onto his stomach, which might be heard.]

I don't get why everyone has to be punished because one person decides to be a jerk.

Egh...this wasn't supposed to be public.

But I don't either...I kinda get it, but I don't like it.

Because that's what being a crew means, one falls and everyone jumps to drag them up unless it's really impossible to do so. And the only time a crew accepts it as being impossible is when the one who fell is definitively dead.

[Pause.]

It's not as if we can't get the information from someone else, unless you think that we shouldn't trust other crews to relay the real information and not make up lies to trick us.

I trust that there are people on the other crews who wouldn't give false information. I was planning to ask around. I didn't mean to make what I wrote public...I mixed up my journals again.

That might be it...I didn't think about that.

Why else would she do that? It's not as if she bans us from being able to ask others about what she says, and her reports are useful but normally pirates don't get those and still survive, with more or fewer hardships but they do it.

The only reason why a ban would be effective, would be if the aim is to divide a crew. To make someone recoil and get angry at others for "being jerks" and "talking that way to Dog". Just like you have done.

It seems to me that this is a form of crowd control.

There's a popular belief that, by punishing an entire group on account of an individual member's actions, the others will begin to encourage said individual to "behave". There's actually been extensive research on this method, and it's been proven to work time and again. It all depends on each group and its ability to work together, however.

She got caught flirting with two brothers at once, and the captain of the other crew was trying to make her jealous with one, that's why we're not the only crew banned.

It's military discipline, originally. Makes me wonder if she has something like that in her history, or is just picking it up because it works.

I'd say you should ask, but she might think it's not a question worth answering and ignore it.

I think enough other people would be irritated that it wouldn't be worth it, anyway. Still, the idea that she might have had a history with the Navy would put an interesting twist on things, wouldn't it?

The punishment of all for the crime of one is not fair, I agree with you.

I know it's a bad idea to do if you're the captain of a ship, to your crew. They'll become mutinous.

Hey, it's not my fault that Dog can't take a joke! You would think, with all her supposed powers of perception or whatever, that she would know when someone's just trying to play around.

She doesn't seem to like jokes very much, from what I've seen.

Yeah, tell me about it. I thought she would appreciate the change of pace, what with everyone hounding her for questions otherwise, but I guess not! Maybe if we throw enough bad jokes at her, she'll cave?

No, I think she'll just stop talking to everyone, not just the crews she's banned. I'm not up to testing that.

...Which isn't really obvious, I know. But Meep says she's been giddy about getting to know us. I think she's just trying to be a hardass to keep up appearances. She wouldn't give us up for a few jokes.

Granted...she doesn't know him too well, as they haven't interacted since he tried to stab her, which means she doesn't necessarily care what he thinks of her. However, in the interest of not being an awful person, she'll go looking for him. Whenever she does find him...]

Huh? Uh...I didn't mean to complain to everyone else, really. I meant to write in my own journal instead of the one everyone else could read.

[He's very embarrassed about it.]

Wish I could say I'm surprised this happened, but I can't.
