5th rise of the phoenix ஜ Audio / Action for Spades possible

[The message comes at night, as he's wandering on the deck. He's not up for guard duty tonight, but he still can't sleep, even if now that island is at a good distance away from them, the effects it had on him haven't vanished. He's still too close to his boiling point, or maybe he's already boiling and it's just a matter of time before he explodes in a ball of fire, anger and hate. Sleeping isn't an option in this state and he knows it better than anyone else. While asleep he may not be able to control his Cosmo, or he may enter into a nightmare that finally tips him over the edge. He may fall into sleep deep enough that he won't be able to know where he is when he wakes up, if someone comes to wake him up he may attack them driven by instinct and the thirst for destruction and release. He may attack Ace if his game of musical beds leads him to his bed, and while he doubts it would cause lasting damage, he would prefer to not do that.

So he doesn't even try to sleep, instead he wanders around the ship and enjoys the silence of the night. Not everyone is asleep yet, but it's calm enough that it could seem so. Eventually, he hits the journals after finding something floating in the water and that he picks up.]

Anyone else thinks that sleep is overrated tonight?

[There's a short pause.]

Right, I almost forgot, we're in Easter period. If anyone wonders why there are eggs in places there shouldn't be or weren't before, it seems this place wants to celebrate that with us.

I found a golden egg floating besides the ship just now, or an egg painted with a gold like color at least. If memory serves well those things should be made of chocolate or actual hard boiled egg-

[There's a cracking sound as the egg's shell starts to break, causing Ikki to stop talking. A few seconds later the chirps of a little chick are heard.]

Or a fucking fluffy chick apparently. What the hell?

[That's definitively not what he expected.]

[Ikki wasn't the only person that the island messed with. Natsuno not only had his nerves completely shot but he had a nervous break down. It wasn't until Marco stepped in that he started to feel a little more sane. He could understand very well what Ikki might have gone through.

He heard him and since he's had more than enough rest since they left and decided to go up and find him. It didn't take him long after all, like he told Ikki, he had his ways.

He came up behind him, clearing his throat before he got too close.]

Evening Ikki.

You don't need to clear your throat for me to know that you're there, you know.

[Currently sitting on the floor, staring at the chick on one of his palms with a frown as the animal looks around curiously.]

Evening Natsuno, feeling better?

All the same, I wouldn't want to startle you unnecessarily.

[He nods.]

I was feeling better, but that island really messed with me. I feel better now though.

[Stupid island. He would never get that close again.]

You would have to manage to hide your presence completely for that. And you don't have the training to do it, at least not from me or Marco.

[He looks to the other.]

Need a bite or something to help with that?

That's how Marco broke me out of it.

[Ugh, he'd rather not think about that pathetic and terrible display really.]

But he actually suggested I talk to you. I know I mentioned awhile ago that Riku wants me to accept this. On some level as we can agree he's right. I didn't do anything with that and I was seriously hurt last battle...

Anyhow, I discussed it with Marco. I can't be that weak again...it's a detriment. I'll put people at risk. The skills I gain from this...I want to use them. To protect everyone.

Mhm.

[Ikki hums in acknowledgement. So car Natsuno hasn't said anything that isn't quite obvious in Ikki's opinion, so he has nothing against it.]

So, what do you need from me to help you?

He thought you might be able to help, yeah. My skills are mostly mental based and he thought you or Thatch could help me figure things out. I've only tested it once and I don't know about range...I'm going to use Riku for that, but as for what kinds of things I can do...

[He trails off a moment.]

I suppose I need help from people who aren't afraid of me. When I was testing it out, I did so on Selphie and I tried to tell her it was going to be creepy but apparently I didn't describe it well enough because she hit me and told me it was terrifying.

[Ikki snorts loudly before he shakes his head, he moves to stand up to look at Natsuno.]

No, I'm sure you described it well enough. Eventually, you will realize that if Selphie has one flaw it's her inability to actually listen to what she's being told, especially if it's a warning or for her own sake. I suppose that she likes to think that she's in control and of top of everything and nothing can shake her no matter how much others tell her otherwise.

But, of course, she's dead wrong and when she realizes all she does is turn the blame to others for not warning her and play the victim's role. I wouldn't suggest anyone to ask her for help with anything that may require warnings, solely because she's unable to get them. You should limit yourself to only ask her for help when it's about organizing a party, book romance or the like.

[Despite the clear annoyance there's also a distinct lack of... Well, anything else when he speaks of Selphie. It's a very matter-of-fact like tone and even the annoyance seems to be directed more to how it's an unknown thing than to her.]

Anyway, mental attacks are something I've experience with, both on the receiving and the giving end. What kind are yours exactly? Illusions? Hypnotism? Posession?

[He nods a little, at least he isn't planning on asking Selphie for help in this matter again after last time. He didn't mean to scare her, not really.]

Hypnotism, yes. Suggestion, definitely and there's some illusions but they are considerably more work. Partly because I have to be creative and come up with something.

I've had more done to me then I've tried. There's a few ways they can be done. The easiest is if I've bitten someone, I can implant suggestions or instructions. How long it lasts, I'm not sure. I wouldn't think forever. I can do some illusions from afar, by finding the person and focusing and I can do it through my voice.

Creative? Can't you just get it out from their own minds? That always makes it easier, get them to fool themselves. If you can do suggestion and hypnotism it shouldn't be impossible for you to get hold of illusions that come from the victim itself rather than having to be creative.

[Ikki hums as he thinks for a moment, crossing his arms though still holding the chick in one palm. As he thinks the chick decides to explore a bit and starts to move over his arms pecking at the skin to see if there's food. He doesn't seem to mind it though.]

I suppose the effects of the instructions when you bite someone may depend on the amount of blood that you extract. Assuming that your power takes advantage of the dizziness and mind openings that the sudden lack of blood produces.

[He blinks.]

I never gave it much thought. I was just trying to come up with ways I could scare people.

[It's why Natsuno is not the expert on the matter.]

I know it can last days. The best way to see maybe would be to ask Ozaki-sensei. He's the only one I've given instruction to after biting him. It might depend on my strength, rather then the amount of blood because the amount is always the same. It might be taking advantage of that, but I can't be sure. He said my instructions held, but it was challenging.

And that's why you were told to ask people. Truth be told, I'm not much of an expert with illusions. If Kanon or Saga were here either of them could give you a real ride about them, but I think my style may suit yours better. I can project illusions' into people's minds, but that's not all, sometimes, depending on how much damage I want to cause or what I'm aiming for, those illusions just come from themselves, their worst nightmares conjured up.

The problem when trying to scare someone is that not everyone is scared of the same things, there are some general things like death but to deliver that is tricky. No one knows better what scares you the most than you yourself, so using that is a way to save time and energy. Besides, even if you could read minds or something like that to try to find what is what people fear the most, that requires time and concentration that you won't have in battle. I once faced an enemy that did that and that was his ruin.

[Ikki's mind was too well defended, had it not been because that guy had faced Shun before, he wouldn't have been able to even find Shun's presence in Ikki's heart before the phoenix roasted him.]

It could be both strength and practice, though since your strength increases the better feed you are that may still make a difference. When you say that it's always the same amount of blood that you drink, you mean that you can only drink that much or that you will only drink that much?

[He mulls it over in his mind.]

It would make a lot more sense, but I can't read minds. At least, I don't think so.

[If he could, it's far from automatic.]

I think it's the same as if you were to take a glass of water. You go to swallow as much as you can and then you have to stop, because you can't drink any more in that sitting. It's the same kind of idea.

Well, you don't need to read minds using them to your advantage if you have hypnotism and suggestion.

[Another hum.]

But you can still go and drink another good sitting of water after stopping once, could you not?

[Something he could think about. He hasn't really explored his powers nearly enough.]

Yeah, and I've had more than one drink in the same day. It's rare, but it's happened. When I lose a lot of blood, it becomes necessary.

In that case maybe further bites would help for the instructions to last longer, together with your own practice. How many times did you bite Ozaki for the instructions?

I only bit him once. It was a precaution because we thought someone else was going to bite him and she did. I just made it do he wouldn't lose himself to her. It wasn't a big instruction.

If you only bit him once and then she bit him as well with her own set of instructions then that's probably why it was challenging. Assuming she had more practice and experience, though, that your instructions hold over hers means that practice or the amount of blood don't matter regarding the effects strength. Still, it would probably have been easier for him if you had bit him again after she did, reinforcing the instructions, like with vaccines.

I didn't really take much blood from him, it was just a theory. I'm glad it worked. The first vampire there, I think is how it works. I suppose that's good news if we encounter any vampires, this crew is pretty protected.

[He nods a little.]

It sounds like it, but at that point he'd be courting death.

With the bites being too soon one after the other I can see how he would.

Okay, so how do you want to start? And I suppose you want me to lower my mental defenses at least until you get the hang of it, right?

[One can't ever say that Ikki isn't a man that goes straight to the point.]

That tends to be the problem.

[Natsuno nods.]

I haven't even factored in defenses, so I'm not really sure how that works. I'll try something easy first.

I'll drop them completely then and we can see how that goes.

[He moves to put the chick away for a bit before he faces Natsuno again.]

All right. Ready here.

[Bring it on.]

[He takes a deep breath and his eyes turn red. He's quiet and he's concentrating.

The easiest thing he found was to direct action. Ikki may feel the need to scoop up the little chick and give it a nuzzle.]

[Even with his defenses down, Ikki's not a man easy to control or bend. Especially when after the island his mind is already boiling. Among it all, though, he can feel something, slowly but steadily growing. normally he would repel it, fight it. But not now.

And finally he moves, scooping up the chicken again and giving it a nuzzle. The chick is at first confused for being picked again but receives the affection happily and even nuzzles back.]

[A fairly harmless action really and Natsuno's application has a soft touch to it. He doesn't mean Ikki any harm.

Since that's all he bid Ikki to do, the feeling should be relieved once he's done the action. Natsuno looks like he's concentrating pretty hard. His lack of practice, most likely.]
