Guests or prospective guests of the Royal Host and Hostess Club,

The Royal Host and Hostess Club will be on Isla Empieza from the fifth of May until the fifteenth.

However, the ship and club will not be open to the general public. The company of the hosts or hostesses may be acquired by contacting individual hosts or hostesses in advance and arranging it with them.

We do offer companionship via the journals for a discounted rate. That, too, is done on an individual basis.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this delay and hope to fully resume operations in June.

[It needed to be done. They're all still licking their wounds from the battle with the Navy, even after the success of Candy Mountain. He, for instance, is still exhausted, still trying to sleep off the stress and strain of his time away from the crew.

...And they seem to be equally strained by his time apart from them.

Still, they're all still standing. It will just take a little time for everything to get back to the way things are supposed to be. For the dust to settle and for issues that have been neatly swept under a rug to go back to being that way. It just takes a little time.

Which is why, several hours later, he writes in the journal again, this time less formally.]

There seems to be a lot of talk about the balls Scurvey Dog mentioned in her last message to us. [Even he'd considered it. Taking his fellow hosts, being in their own world. But there's a warning that needs to be given.] Please be careful, especially at the Navy-hosted one. We do not need to give them another reason to regroup and hunt us down.

I'm glad to hear it. The navy has already proven they take exception to us. I think it would be best not to outright provoke them further.

A Host and Hostess Club is a group of people who are, essentially, paid to make friends with the person who comes to see them and pays them. We provide snacks, sweets, and things to drink as well as companionship and conversation.

The crew of the Antoinette offers the service of a Host and Hostess Club when we are capable. Due to outside circumstances, we will not be open to the general public when next on Isla Empieza, as we usually are. Individual appointments can still be made, however, depending on the availability and willingness of the particular Host or Hostess.

We can, but not everyone has the time to make friends. Or they want someone they can talk to or act a certain way around that they don't feel like they can do with their friends.

That's a really strange idea. It's usually a better idea to be honest with people.

[No, it's not. Kyouya, naturally, won't say that. After all, he prefers to lie to people far more than he likes telling the truth. At least when it comes to interaction. He'll give a false impression, not convey false information.]

But sometimes people don't feel like they can be. So whether they want to lie without being questioned or tell the truth without being judged, we offer our services.

I guess, but then it doesn't seem like you're really friends.

It depends how our guests want to see themselves. Some are much more comfortable not actually being friends while others feel that we are their friends.

[Kyouya is inclined to the latter since, well, it's a service that is paid for.]

It still seems weird to me, to buy a friend.

I can see how it would be. Host Clubs and Hostess Clubs are quite common where I'm from, so I suppose it's a matter of perspective.

That makes sense. I don't know if we had anything like that before, but there's nothing like that now.

I don't think they're very common in America anyway.

I will try and get the crew I'm on to not try and provoke them, but I guess that can only go so far before they do. I mean after all they do seem easily provoked in the first place.

Still, I feel the warning is worth offering.

We currently have two hostesses. Both of whom are given to quiet refinement. Unfortunately, we do not have the wide range in hostesses that we do in hosts, but both Karen and Haruhi are exceptionally good company.
