[Voice/Action for Spades]
[OOC: THIS IS REALLY FOR TOMORROW, BUT MUN WON'T BE ON MUCH TOMORROW, SO...]
[Guess whose birthday it is? This guy's. He's not exactly excited for it, though. Someone is still...not back, yet, from being dead. At this point, he's starting to think she might not be coming back, period. So, his mind is pretty preoccupied. His voice doesn't sound very Sora-like. He sounds tired and maybe even a little far away.
Well, that could have a little to do with the fact that all of this is coming out in something close to a whisper.]
Three days...
[He's speaking through gritted teeth with the next sentence.] It's been three extra days and she's still not back...

Three days...
[He's speaking through gritted teeth with the next sentence.] It's been three extra days and she's still not back...

[Action] Does Sora need his mommy?
Who isn't fledging? [Get him to speak so that she use her ears as well to find him.]
[Action] - /sob
Huh? [He asks, obviously a little confused- that nickname isn't exactly something he's been called, before. Still, he has no problem answering the question.] ...Kairi. She's... [No, saying it...sounds wrong.] She hasn't come back, yet.
[Action] Come here baby and let momma hold you.
And what do you prefer to be called? Fledging, Hatchling or Nestling?]
Kairi? What that her name? [There.... There is his scent and there he is. She goes to look towards him with a sadden look on her face. No need for her powers to see what he is currently feeling.]
[Perma-action] - /clings to
Yeah... Her name's Kairi. [He adds in a lowered tone.] She's from the same world as me and Riku. She was...shot, and...
[He falls silent. He's sitting with his back against the rail out on the deck. Sure, their ship isn't crowded, but he'd still taken the liberty of finding a place where he was sure he wouldn't be seen. He'd just...wanted a moment to himself.
He plans to head to his room, later, of course. Just...right now, he needs a break from putting on that brave face and pretending he's fine.]
[action]
Tracking Sora down is easy enough, though. Riku finds him in their room, and he leans up against the doorjamb with his hands in his pockets for a moment before he says anything.]
...Happy birthday.
[action]
... [He has to pause to take a deep breath and force that lump in his throat away. Once he finally manages that, he attempts a smile.] ...Thanks, Riku.
[He really does appreciate the wish, in spite of everything. Especially coming from him. Sora's really grateful to have the other teen here, period. Friends really are...everything. And...well, it's Riku. No matter what happens between them, his childhood friend is always going to be a very important person in Sora's life.
Closing the journal, he sets it down on the hammock next to him. Moving to dangle his feet off the side of the hammock, he turns to look at Riku for a moment. After a couple of seconds, he looks down.]
I was...so sure.
[That she'd be back. That it wouldn't take this long. That it'd be the same for her as it's been for most people on this world. By this point, there is no telling himself that maybe- ...maybe she's just late. He will continue hoping for the best, though... After all, there's a chance she really has been sent home. That...has to be it, ...right? From the start, someone like her hadn't deserved to die in a place like this- in a way like that. So, maybe...she's been spared and further pain this place has to offer- and has been returned to the Islands? ...Yeah.
He'll just set his mind to believe she'll be waiting for them whenever they finally get back.]
[action]
She's just taking awhile. She'll be back.
[But the more he says that, the less he believes it now.]
[action]
...Yeah.
[A voice in the back of his head reminds him of something- ...that Kairi would definitely not approve of him just sitting around...depressed on his birthday. Even if it doesn't even feel like his birthday without her around, he has to try harder.]
You're right, Riku. Heh... [With that, he reaches up and slaps each side of his face with his hands, forcing a grin- forces, being the key word.] Time to pull it together. She wouldn't want anyone looking sad on their birthday, right?
[action]
No... She would not.
[Goes to throw himself onto the hammock next to Sora, his head clunking back against the wall.]
But these are weird circumstances. Still... Sixteen, huh?
[action]
Looking over at his friend as he sits next to him, Sora holds the grin in place for a moment longer.]
Heh...Yeah. Not that I actually feel any older.
[He manages a bit of a laugh.]
Actually...if I'm being honest, I didn't even remember it was my birthday until I looked at the journal today.
[action]
[Shrugs a little.]
Sixteen was kind of a lame year for me. Maybe it'll be better for you. ...Even if it's not starting out great.
[action]
Heh...Who knows. [Pauses, then says somewhat quietly.] Maybe this year will be better for both of us.
[action]
Well, yeah. I was thinking it was coming up and I didn't have anything to give you. [His expression turns apologetic.] Still don't, in fact. ...Sorry.
Anyway, I don't think this year could be any worse, so. There's that. Although I'm probably just jinxing myself by saying that.
[action]
[Sora then gives a slightly nervous laugh.] I hope not, since I can't imagine worse.
[action]
[Closes his eyes.]
Me neither. Let's just assume worse isn't an option.
[action]
Alright...fine...
[Scratching at the back of his head, he looks down at the floor and stares for a moment.]
Deal. Hey, ...Riku? [Pause.] How is...everything? With you, I mean. I know everything's been crazy, but- well, how are you holding up?
[action]
[Blinks his eyes back open to glance at Sora, then he just shrugs.]
I'm fine. Don't worry about me.
[action]
Come on, I know things've been tough for you, too! You...always worry about me and you've...made me feel a lot better, since...everything that happened. [There's no need to specify what things he's talking about.] I wanna help you, too, you know!
[action]
You are. This right here, this is helping. Just...there's not really much else we can do but deal with the hand we've been dealt at this point. So...I'm fine. Like I said, if she's not here, I'm going to assume she went home.
[action]
After a couple of seconds, it slowly starts to fade. His brow tenses a little, then he lets out a sigh. Expression softening, he looks downward a faint confused look appearing.]
How does...this help? [Looks back up at Riku.] And just because you say you're fine doesn't mean I believe you.
[action]
[He huffs at that last bit, rolling his eyes.]
Fine, don't believe me, then. What do you want me to say?
[action]
I guess I can understand that. [The smile gently fades.] I mean, if you weren't here, I'm not sure how I'd... [--do with Kairi's death, this place...
...everything in general.] ...do, I guess.
[To the second part, Sora's expression tenses, and then he's letting out a sigh.]
...I dunno, I guess- I just... [With that, he lowers his leg and leans back against the wall.]
Maybe a part of me feels like I should be doing more to help you. You're always so...strong. Nothing seems to bother you, half the time. [Again, it reminded him of that jealousy he'd felt towards him back during their days on the island.]
Even when it's incredibly hard, you know? [Another sigh. It's a little frustrating, in a way.] That's how it feels to me, anyway.
[action]
Sora... Look, I'm -- I'm sorry. It's...I put up these walls, that's all. Around certain...emotions. I guess. It's not that I'm strong. I'm not. Not any stronger than you, anyway. I'm just more closed off.
[He nudges him a little with a faint smile.]
Besides, if you're gonna be a huge girl about everything, then you need me around to counterbalance it.
[Obviously kidding, and he sighs again a second later.]
But trust me, I can break. I already did. When you... [Lets that trail off, then shakes his head.] I lost it. I wasn't strong then, I was a total mess. And I was so wrapped up in myself and what I was going through that I didn't even check on Kairi. She had to come to me.
So...yeah, things bother me. Things can definitely bother me, I just have a habit of...keeping stuff locked away. It's not necessarily a good thing.
[action]
The nudge has him looking at Riku, instead, however. Just in time to give him a frown, too, since he doesn't appreciate that comment about being a "huge girl". Seriously, jerk?]
Hey...
[He doesn't say anything more, however, mainly because- well, he isn't actually all that offended, since he knows Riku's only teasing? Plus, Riku's going back to being serious, so...
Once he's finished talking, Sora's sitting up a bit off of the wall and staring down at his hands.]
I guess...I understand. I don't think it makes you weak, though. It just makes Riku...Riku. [Looking up at his friend, he offers him a grin.] Everyone's different. So, guess it only makes sense that we all have our own ways of dealing with stuff. [He leans back against the wall, again, looking back up at the ceiling.] Even so- maybe you could...try? You know, talk to me a little more? If you want...
[action]
I do talk to you. I talk to you more than I talk to anyone else, especially now. After everything with Natsuno.
[He sighs.]
I guess I can...try to open up a little more? [But he makes a slight face even as he says it.] ...Maybe. It's not that I don't want to, I'm just...sort of in a weird place for that right now.
[action]
Heh... Yeah, I guess that's no surprise. I am, too, actually. In a weird...place, I mean.
[It's only been three days since what Riku told him. And, considering he's been using most of his mental energy to not lose it a little over Kairi, he hasn't really had a chance to think on Riku's words.]
[action]
What, so you want me to open up even though you're finding it a little hard to do that right now, too?
[Gives a light snort, his tone turning just faintly sarcastic.]
That seems fair.
[action]
Hey, it's not like I'm always like this! [Then, looks defeated.] But, you're right. It's not fair. [He laughs, somewhat, then scrubs a hand through his hair. Looking to the side, he closes his eyes.]
Then again, it's...not that I'm having trouble opening up. It's that, there's so many things going through my head, that I don't even really know...where to start.
[action]
[He grimaces a little, dragging a hand over his face.]
Sorry. I don't... Maybe I should give you some space, or. Something.
[Again.
Though with the Kairi situation, he's not sure if that's the best thing to do. But what else is there to say about that, really? It's all a waiting game at this point, waiting for her to come back, which is stressful enough without...other complications getting in the way.
He's kind of at a loss, honestly. For once not sure what to do.]
