[Flowing, almost archaic script starts to inundate the page.]

Dearest Brother,

I do not know if you will ever receive this letter. All I know is that I have been spirited away to this dastardly, horrid, menacing, troubling, and mysterious place known as Isla Empieza. I am very much afraid – who knows what the people here would do to a young maiden such as myself? Oh, oh, my dearest brother, my virtue is at stake – you must come at once! If I die here, I will come back to haunt you and you will never hear the end of it, so I suggest that you come and fetch me at this very moment! One such man asked me my name, and I threw him off the dock. I am truly helpless, waif-like, and defenseless, and I need your aid!

Please, also let my darling fiance Ranma-sama know that I am longing for him. I will simply not entertain thoughts of any other until I find myself in his arms once more. I know how he grieves, but console him, my dearest sibling. How he must pine for me – it is unthinkable.

[Kodachi doesn't mind either. Good or bad - she'll do what it takes to get what she wants, and she quite approves of Ace's stand in life.]

[Blinking rapidly, Ace held his journal away from himself a second. He got into the habit of holding it close so it could hear him properly and then he paid dearly for it by being in way of Kodachi's laugh--]

... [Some people. He was beyond confused. He just said what was on his mind and even tried to be honest about pirates. How did it turn out that way...?]

I wasn't really expectin' that sorta feedback, but alright. I won't begrudge that.

How long have you been here, Mr. Ace? I hope that our kidnapper is not tormenting you further?

Ehhh. You don't gotta be so formal. Remember, I'm a pirate.

Anyway, I'm not bothered. Most of my crew doesn't wanna be here, but I like it.

That does not mean that I have to treat you with such ill manners.

You do? Wouldn't you rather be sailing your own seas?

[He would press on. Ace knew when he could scarcely convince people.]

I don't think any stretch of water is better than the other. I just like to see interesting things and meet interesting people.

It sounds like sailing is your passion . . .

[She thought about it. A passion in any world was still the same.]

Are you looking for something? Aside from the jewel, that is. Or do you sail because you like to sail and are as enamored of it as the destination?

Not necessarily. Sailing is fun, but it's travel. I'm more interested in the islands, when it comes down to things. [The islands were always where weird things happened and he actually felt surprised, after all.]

As for why I do it--that's something I can't answer concretely. Because, it's good to be alive and I want to do what I feel like whenever I want.

To be alive and to do whatever you want to do . . .

[Deep breath. You're so inspiring!]

I've never met anyone like you before! But when I think of it, perhaps adventure is in my blood - both my mother and my father left me and my brother when we were children to go off and see the world. My father has returned, but I still haven't seen my mother since.

Perhaps it's my turn now.

Oh, my father's a principal of a school, so I don't think he gets to sail as much. [Rather, he spends all his time lobbing coconut bombs and trying to give the students haircuts.] I should ask him once I see him again.

[The fact that he's not around doesn't make her sad - she's used to it. She's sadder that Tatewaki's nowhere to be found.]

Strong? [You could hear the eagerness in her voice.] How so, Mr. Ace?

Would you protect me if I needed your help? ♥ [She'd be batting her lashes if you could see her . . .]

Hmmm. If you were nearby, sure. [She didn't seem like a bad lady, after all. Otherwise--]

Though, I'm not the type to go too much out of my way. I'm a Captain, so my crew is what I protect the most.

Otherwise, if you were an ally as well, then I'd be obliged.

And if we were friends?

Then, I'd protect you.

[It was a pretty straight-forward idea. Ace did what he wanted.]

I hope that we can be friends, then.

Well, you haven't done anythin' to indicate I shouldn't let you be a friend of mine.

I used to always study and practice my martial arts and my music and I never had time for friends before!

You spend that much time outta the day on those? Seems a little excessive to me. Even Jinbe said practice helps repair your muscles for later...

Yes, I do.

It's true! Practice keeps one's muscles toned and one's body limber so that when the duels arrive, you don't end up straining yourself too much.

I'm always busy, so I've never really had time to make friends. Now, however . . . away from home and all alone . . . a friend would be a comfort! [And people she can pick on.]

Nah, not formally. I never learned a style like karate or anything. I've always fought on the street and learned things on my own. Regular 'training' doesn't suit how I fight, anyway.

[Dirty, harsh and abusive. Though, he was exceptionally graceful. A lot of what Ace did could easily be mistaken for a trained style if only because he'd been fighting adults since he was three or four years old.]
