[Flowing, almost archaic script starts to inundate the page.]
Dearest Brother,
I do not know if you will ever receive this letter. All I know is that I have been spirited away to this dastardly, horrid, menacing, troubling, and mysterious place known as Isla Empieza. I am very much afraid – who knows what the people here would do to a young maiden such as myself? Oh, oh, my dearest brother, my virtue is at stake – you must come at once! If I die here, I will come back to haunt you and you will never hear the end of it, so I suggest that you come and fetch me at this very moment! One such man asked me my name, and I threw him off the dock. I am truly helpless, waif-like, and defenseless, and I need your aid!
Please, also let my darling fiance Ranma-sama know that I am longing for him. I will simply not entertain thoughts of any other until I find myself in his arms once more. I know how he grieves, but console him, my dearest sibling. How he must pine for me – it is unthinkable.
Brother, I will put this letter in a bottle and hope that it reaches you. I will perhaps ask a turtle to bear it for me. When you receive this, please come and rescue me!
Love,
The Star of Hope of the Gymnast World
The Black Rose
Your Beloved Sister

[Some time later . . .]
I can't rip the page out! I've been trying for hours! It just . . . flies back into the journal . . . !!! Magic exists, but only to taunt me! The fates are against me! I'll never be rescued now!
[Cue shrieks, wails, and sobs. When sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions.]

The journal - it's talking! It's haunted!
. . . By a very polite ghost!
[A pause, and then - ]
Hello, spirits that reside in this journal - can you hear me?
[A particularly wet sniffle.]
[voice]
I am not a ghost, my Lady, merely a man. This journal is one of many, and any who possesses one can communicate with any other who has one.
[A pause, and then he adds:]
Be at ease; I most certainly hear you.
[voice]
Perhaps my brother has one! Oh, kind sir, do you think he could hear me? If so, shouldn't he fetch his poor, quivering sister?
[Another sniff.]
If you can hear me, then you must tell me - why am I here? Why have I been kidnapped? Is it because I'm so beautiful? So rich? So powerful? So talented?
[voice]
[Goodness, but this Lady is overwhelming. She is full of confidence and self-esteem, almost enough to out-do Lord Motochika! Mitsuhide himself is not usually one to debate someone over their opinions of themselves, and certainly not upon first meeting.]
[His kind heart bids him only to keep helping as he can.]
He who brought us here, Davy Jones, did so in order to use us as a way of finding the shards of a magical jewel, which are scattered across the wide and varied seas. Nobody quite knows how he picks out souls, but I am sure those of certain talents are particularly appealing.
[voice]
He must. His sister depends on him.
[Sniff.]
Why can he not search for this jewel himself? What is the reward for us if we do his bidding? One simply can't expect to be kidnapped and then to do these things without expectation of reward!
[voice]
[A deep sigh.]
To most, the chance to go back home is considered reward enough. Right now the only way to do so is if Davy Jones sends us back on a whim, and there is no guarantee he will ever do so with some of us. The power of the jewel is widely believed, but not guaranteed, to be able to send us back as well.
Many islands here are heavy in riches, magic and beautiful sights, however.
[voice]
[
cough pot calling the kettle black cough]The jewel grants any wish, then?
[Hmmmm.]
Riches, I have in abundance. Magic and beauty, however - it's almost consolation enough that one is away from home. If only I wasn't wrested from Japan against my will!
