1st report [Voice/Action]

[It's a voice recording, though it takes a few seconds for any sound to come through. There's a sigh and the voice is clearly that of an agitated 20-something male.]

Pirates? This isn't really my style. Someone is going to way too much trouble to pull one over me.

Man, what a nuisance. If you were going to kidnap me, at least have it make sense! Where am I! Aughh! And why the journal? This is entirely too much detail for someone's hollywood fantasies!

At least common pirate tropes still allow for your egregious hats.

[Philip's voice is very abruptly to Shotaro's left, muffled by his knuckle being set upon his lower lip.]
And you're asking the wrong questions in the wrong place. The journal is for communication, it's hardly responsible for the kidnapping. As to where we are, it seems the town is named Isla Empieza, which seems to be some sort of play off the Spanish term empezar, meaning to start, open, or begin.

[There's a loud scoff.]

Those ratty, salty excuses for hats don't even come close to comparing to my hard-boiled hats of the trade, Philip. I--PHILIP!

[Oh good, you finally noticed him. He lifts his head away from his hand and splays the hand in something like a wave, grinning.] Yo, Shotaro.

HAAAAAAAAAAAA! What are you doing here!? How did they get us both!?

[The grin quirks at one corner and he chuckles for a moment.] I've already exhausted most resources to figure out what happened, and it seems the lore on the supposed perpetrator leads him to be quite a fearsome person. Though previous to now, and even given the situation, I have my doubts that this "Davy Jones" even really exists.

[There's another scoff.]

It's probably some small time crook taking on a name much bigger than they are. Aaaah, what a pain. I guess we have no choice but to take the case, Partner.

[ooc: Shotaro ([personal profile] countyoursins) in black and Philip ([personal profile] keyworddouble) in green! Shotaro has no idea what he's doing with the journal so feel free to laugh at him. They're both by the fountain so its open for action tagging!]

Given that we were only provided with very ambiguous details about our supposed captor, but given somewhat more details on the concept of the Piedra Roja, I had less doubts about its stability at a conceptual device. Our supposed kidnapper being named after what is essentially an urban legend, a name given to a concept of idiom, significantly lessened my willingness to believe him to be an actual perpetrator.

[Philip she already said she only understood part of what you said can you talk like a normal kid for ten minutes.]

[ well it was mostly the hollywood and trope stuff that went right over her head even being from anachronistic disney europe ]

O...kay. [ thinking thinking processing processing ] So you believe that the person who brought us here is just using the name Davy Jones rather than being this Davy Jones himself. You think otherwise because Davy Jones is just an urban legend. But considering that you're willing to admit to the possibility of the existence of a gem that grants wishes, why do you think it less likely that this Davy Jones actually exists?

[ tugging on her braid uncertainly ] Who's this Davy Jones anyway and how is he urban legendary? [ also what's an urban legend? anyway, no idea about davy jones so she was just. he's some weird kidnapper person! ]

I guess you could say that given Davy Jones is only a story and lacks a proven physical manifestation where I am from, the concept of this jewel interests me far more, and therefore comes across as easier to believe as a factual existence. It would behoove someone kidnapping people en masse to use an alias such as Davy Jones to sway suspicion from his or herself, and it also extends the fear of a concept some, if not most, are aware of as fiction.

Like how people threaten children with bogeyman stories to make them go to bed at certain times. There is no concrete proof of any such bogeyman existing, but the concept of it "coming to get" children scares them, so they listen to their parents or legal guardians in hopes that what they fear will leave them alone.

Davy Jones is, where I come from, a fictional character commonly represented in pirate lore surrounding the conceptual "location" of Davy Jones' Locker. Davy Jones' Locker in and of itself is an idiom for both the bottom of the sea and the death of sailors and shipwrecks. Which is also a lot of where my doubt for the kidnappings being due to "Davy Jones" comes from, as where I'm from "Davy Jones" is just fiction extrapolated from still more fiction, based upon an idiom.
