[text/action] - WELCOME MESSAGE
[Sometime at midnight, at the turn of February 10th, new arrivals to Empieza (should they open their journals) will be greeted by friendly red letters splashed amongst the usual rabble that take up nearly half a page: ]
HELLO NEW ARRIVALS
[The rest is...honestly a lot less than Codi would have liked to write concerning this place, but there's only so much she can do with limited space--especially since now she has to replicate the message on fliers, which have been pinned to most available surfaces on the island proper. Hopefully those will get to the people who don't see her post in the next few days, to avoid some of the confusion of her first attempt last month.]
[In the meanwhile, she tries to be brief.]
You may be wondering where you are, or what you're doing here! The short of it is that you've been kidnapped by a pirate named Davy Jones, and the only way we know of to get out of here is to search for shards of a red gem known as the Piedra Roja, which are scattered around. Supposedly, if we put them together, we get a wish of some kind--and I don't know about you, but I think we would all like to leave.
Your first order of business should be to check your pockets, if you have any. If you do, you should find a good amount of local currency there; use it to buy a room at one of the local inns on Empieza, which is the island where you are, some food and clothes if you need them. At night, it would be a good idea to look for signs to the Blackwater Brig--the shopkeep, Miss Margie, is extremely helpful and has a lot of useful items up for purchase.
If you haven't run into them already, Captain Dave Strider and the crew of the Sinewave--myself included!--will be around the island looking for new arrivals such as yourself. They are there to help you and make sure you stay safe. In about a day or so, you will see an entry from someone called Scurvey Dog. DO NOT ask her questions--she will not be helpful, especially if you ask her things that we can answer instead.
From there, you should start looking for a crew to join. The locals will keep you for about a week before they force you to leave, and seeing as we're surrounded by ocean, you had better have a boat to stay on. We will be happy to fill you in on the different crews and what kind of people they're looking for, as well as answer any other questions you undoubtedly have! We are always willing to help.
Wind in your sails,
Dakota Perkins and the Welcome Committee
[And as this is technically signed by the group--by Codi's hand, of course--she expects them to jump on any questions that are missed by her watchful eye. It is a group effort, after all! But, in the case where the journal entry is missed and the flyers are found instead, Codi will be making frequent rounds of the town square and other key points of the island in search of the especially lost or confused. The ginger woman is hard to miss--she's tending to the posters, after all, and is also being followed closely by two tiny, feathered dinosaur hatchlings, who will probably greet anyone who approaches her before she notices they're around.]
[She's not the only one--one Captain Hustledaddy is also making his rounds in the town square, and much more impressively.]

Uh, I have a question! If you happened to be with someone, several someones or a someone and somethings [ and she pauses to check whether she'd tallied her someones and somethings properly ] - yeah that last one - right before you got brought here, what would have happened to them? Were they brought along or did they get left behind? Because I would have assumed they'd have been brought along and if they weren't, they might come looking for me. I kind of owe one of them a sled owing to circumstances that weren't completely under my control. Force majeure. Or uh. Wolves majeure.

Anyway--your question! Speaking from experience, since I was with my husband before I arrived here and he hasn't bothered to show up yet, I'm assuming they were just left behind. We're still kind of confused about how Davy Jones nabs people.
If it helps, though, apparently when you go back home it's like no time has passed since you left. Or...maybe. I think it's different for some people? Only a couple that I know of have been--uh--re-kidnapped, so to speak. So you'll probably be able to finish whatever sled-related business you had going on!
So, what's your name?

[...It's a joke, but Codi really hopes she never has to update that timescale.]
Nice to meet you, Anna of Arendelle! You can call me Codi. [A pause.] ...Afraid I haven't heard of Arendelle...not where I'm from, at least. Doesn't sound like one of the islands I recognize...which it probably won't be. Sorry honey-- [And she does sound legitimately remorseful.] --but if you're anything like the rest of us, then you're a long way from home.

[There's a definite pause as Codi flips through her journal, searching through her bookmarks to count the months.]
...four months now, I think. And there were people who have been here two months longer, so the first arrivals were probably...six months ago? Yeah, that sounds right.

[ a burst of angry noise from her end interrupts her dramatic breakdown ] Sorry, I didn't mean to put my foot into your bucket! It was an accident! Hey! I know where it's been and I can assure you, I've been tramping around in perfectly clean Arendelle snow! Give or take some reindeer droppings!
[ but that interruption, embarrassing as it was, actually helped clear her head ] You said that it'd be like no time had passed at all when I go back home right?
