[it is a little after dinner, and he is in his little boat, lying back and watching the moon over the water, singing low to himself]
O come home my sailor boy
Far over deep gray waves you roam
I've been waiting long long years
To see you come back home.
O come home my sailor boy
Someone else waits for you, too
The glinting muskets at the door
Just say how I loved you
O don't worry sailor boy
I will watch you mount the stand
And when you go, my sailor boy
I'll take your hard cold hand
[after that fades into stillness, he'll write]
Ever felt too strong for anyone's good? Like you're not quite yourself anymore due to circumstances? Offhand, anyone think Davey Jones will grant requests if you end up under with him?
[not that he's thinking of doing anything reckless.]

Let's see-- He was the one that first conquered the most dangerous sea in the world, sailing all along the Grand Line and into the New World on oceans so strange and fierce that it makes this one looks like a cakewalk.
He could be a harsh man if you crossed him and showed no quarter, but he was also clever and adventurous and inspiring. You really felt like he belonged there in that life. They say he smiled when he was executed.
[did Ace smile, Thatch wondered? Did Pops?]
Pops crossed swords with him more than once and drank sake with him more than once. But all told he was a great man.
[Thatch leaves aside the part about the one piece since that's irrelevant here and he's not one to explain that secret, even to someone who it won't affect]

[and still...]
Not as great as Pops, though.
[because anyone could be a revolutionary hero if they had the guts and the luck, but it took a truly great man to be a father]

*It then occurs to Adol that he's not sure who he's talking to.* Do you mind telling me who you are? I'm still a little new here and trying to figure out who's who. My name's Adol Christin.

[and then Ace will try to kill him, no doubt. Wouldn't that be great]
Names Thatch. Commander of the Moon under the Spade Pirates. Good to meet you Adol.

We have a reputation, do we? Hope it's not a bad one.
[but he sounds jovial, especially since he hopes it's the exact opposite]
