[Written] [Filtered to her crew, the Sinewave]

i know I have a way of disappearing, but know that I'm always here.  I'm merely conserving my strength these days.

I have a confession to make. I've been holding back this whole time.

No man can say what will be in the coming battle, but I expect it to be fierce.

If I cut loose, there's a good chance no one will leave alive. My full strength isn't the kind that's suited to fighting along side others.

Is that why you need to fight alongside a magic user?

Then what is the point of your need for a magic user?

So... you're like a familiar. Huh.

I said 'LIKE a familiar'.

A familiar is a being whose corporeal form and ties to the physical plane are dependent upon the magical energy supplied by a mage. Typically, in exchange for this energy, the being in question allies with the mage. Or they end up under contract and forced through spiritual bindings to perform acts of service, depending on the nature of the mage.

There are many kinds of familiars. Only the ones created by the mage are automatically less powerful. There are quite a number of demons and other beings that can be summoned and bound to a mage as a familiar that, without the spiritual bindings, would easily be able to destroy the mage in question.

I was apprenticed to a sorcerer for several years. Just because I don't advertise my magical knowledge and ability doesn't mean I'm stupid.

Though, you underestimating my understanding is a good example of why I'd rather those not of our crew think of me as a simple swordsman.

Our priority is recovering Hachiken. I will not leave one of my crew to this witch's tortures. He's suffered enough. Who knows how he's handling the knowledge of what he did. Actually, he's probably not handling it at all.

Once we have him, we'll find that bitch and make her pay. I may be able to shield you from the eyes of others, but I will only be capable of one spell, so I will use it when I must for what I must as this all unfolds. If it is available to shield you, I will, but don't count on it. I'll probably have to use it to counter a spell of hers.

I knew it! I knew you were hiding something with the cold stuff.

[...although she has no idea what that has to do with staying warm even in freezing temperatures, but hey! She's admitted to something! That's a win, right?]

What exactly are you capable of? Maybe we can work around you somehow.

[Codi thinks about poking at how silly it is to keep hiding things secret, but they do have important things to be talking about right now. At least, more interesting things.]

Yeah! Working around a maelstrom. We can do that, if you tell us what to look out for. You know, like...give us a warning when you're about to cut loose, and we'll get out of your way.
