[Written] [Filtered to her crew, the Sinewave]
i know I have a way of disappearing, but know that I'm always here. I'm merely conserving my strength these days.
I have a confession to make. I've been holding back this whole time.
No man can say what will be in the coming battle, but I expect it to be fierce.
If I cut loose, there's a good chance no one will leave alive. My full strength isn't the kind that's suited to fighting along side others.

If I had a master, I'd be fine, but I'll die if I run out of mana, and just by having a body, most days I nearly use it faster than I build it up.

Re: Written
A familiar is less powerful than its master. What I am is not.
Written
A familiar is a being whose corporeal form and ties to the physical plane are dependent upon the magical energy supplied by a mage. Typically, in exchange for this energy, the being in question allies with the mage. Or they end up under contract and forced through spiritual bindings to perform acts of service, depending on the nature of the mage.
There are many kinds of familiars. Only the ones created by the mage are automatically less powerful. There are quite a number of demons and other beings that can be summoned and bound to a mage as a familiar that, without the spiritual bindings, would easily be able to destroy the mage in question.

Though, you underestimating my understanding is a good example of why I'd rather those not of our crew think of me as a simple swordsman.

I'd rather not cut loose in front of too many eyes.

Once we have him, we'll find that bitch and make her pay. I may be able to shield you from the eyes of others, but I will only be capable of one spell, so I will use it when I must for what I must as this all unfolds. If it is available to shield you, I will, but don't count on it. I'll probably have to use it to counter a spell of hers.

[...although she has no idea what that has to do with staying warm even in freezing temperatures, but hey! She's admitted to something! That's a win, right?]
What exactly are you capable of? Maybe we can work around you somehow.

[What a troublesome noble phantasm. She could point it in the right direction if she held back some, but at full power...]
You might as well ask how to work around a maelstrom.
no subject
Yeah! Working around a maelstrom. We can do that, if you tell us what to look out for. You know, like...give us a warning when you're about to cut loose, and we'll get out of your way.
