Third Hex ✶ Voice

[The first part of the message is just meant for the Shepherds, but Henry doesn't bother to make it private. Mostly because he's still a little too dizzy to remember how to do that again.]

So, uh... One of our doors is broken now. It's the one to Alice's room, specifically. I figured I should let someone know, because I'm pretty sure we should get that fixed!

We'll need to get new wood though, because my blood is on a few parts of it.

And also a piece of it is kind of lodged in my arm. So I don't think we can use that anymore.

[Should he have mentioned that part first? Oh well.]

I really hope that this curse or whatever ends soon! It's not nearly as much fun as the previous ones.

Oh, just some stuff about how I wasn't going to let her kill anyone and that I don't think Rikka likes seeing her be this way.

...somehow at some point she got the impression that I cursed Rikka into thinking like that. I'm not sure how that happened!

Kill anyone? I don;t understand what's going on.

Well, I'm pretty sure Alice, Mana and a bunch of other people have been cursed into acting all weird! And I think Alice wants to kill anyone who gets too close to her friends now.

Ah. I thought people had been acting odd, but I haven't been here long enough to really know.

I've been here for a few months now and I can tell that they're definitely acting all kooky! Usually that's just me!

Does that mean you're usually the kooky one? [Okay now that he's heard that, he wonders what the matter could be.] Do you know why they are being odd then?

Well, yeah! At least, that's what people usually say about me!

I'm pretty sure that it's another curse. A really bad one this time, too! So hopefully it'll just go away on its own, 'cause I don't think I can break this one.

Well I don't think so, at the moment.

A curse... Wait you mean like that one where everyone was cold that one time? [He goes quiet for a minute.] Wait, you can usually break curses? How?

Huh... I guess if everyone else is all weird, I probably look normal next to them!

Yeah, yeah, just like that! And I couldn't break that one either. I'm kind of an expert on curses, actually. Both making and breaking them! But it doesn't work with these ones at all!

How is that possible? I mean they are curses and you work with them. It doesn't make sense.

The curses I work with are... I dunno, different, I guess? The magic's all weird here. Doesn't feel right.

Oh, so it's too different to break. But then again that sounds kind of worrying.

A little, I guess! I didn't think it was too important before now. I mean, those curses weren't too bad.

But I don't like this one. It's no fun.

Hmmm, I've never seen curses before, so this is my first one. Though curses aren't usually good, right?

They're generally pretty nasty, yeah! That's kinda the point.

But there are also some helpful curses. I'm more interested in the lethal ones myself, but I know a few of those too!

Why do you like the lethal kind? Those aren't nice.

Well, they're way more fun, for one! And I was a soldier back home, so I kinda needed them too!

Don't soldiers have to fight? how would they have time to use curses.

Oh, lots of ways! Sometimes I prepare them ahead of time, so they're ready to go when it's time for battle. And other times I don't even wait until the battle, I just kill them before it even starts!

It's really effective. One time, I killed like a hundred people with just one curse!

Those poor people. [He doesn't see what they did to deserve it.] They didn't do anything wrong, except follow what they were told.

Huh? Why do you care, it's not like you knew them!

[Sadly, Henry does not know how to empathy.]

Sure, I don't know them, but it isn't nice either way.

People die all the time. A few more here or there won't make a difference!

Besides, most of 'em were soldiers, so they really should've seen it coming!

I still don't like it though.

But I guess we can't argue about it.

Probably not! I just don't think death is that big of a deal, is all! I never get why other people do.
