[Ace knew that tone. So, when he left the supply room and put aside his chores for awhile, he sauntered along the pier to Luffy's ship, looking for him. When he couldn't find him, he returned to the pier and paused, looking around.

Eventually, he wandered the shore and saw Luffy by himself, tracing in the sand.]

Y'know, Luffy--I've heard people go home when they vanish from here. Aren't you jealous?

[Though, he was really just teasing. Ace knew better than that.]

[Usopp was home. Probably. And it wasn't like he left mad or anything. Just disappeared. And he's really not jealous--or--well--]

I'm jealous of the me that gets to have Usopp.

[he's drawing a stick figure of him with a really long nose, his knees tucked up to his chin. But he's not crying. Just frowning really hard. Because Usopp is alive and probably happier to be back home maybe. But it's still really sad]

[Ace reached up to touch his own nose, setting it on fire. He pulled the fire out, so he had a long-fire-nose.]

That's fair enough. A pirate's always gotta want more and more, Luffy.

But, you've got to be patient, too.

[He sat down right there, smiling all the same.]

For what? [bonk, he'll lean his head against Ace's shoulder and then-- sit up! Because he is supposed to be stronger] Do you think he'll come back?

Well, do you want to steal from yourself, Luffy?

[Ace waved away his fire nose and smirked.]

Let things happen. Do what you want when you have your chance and it'll be alright. It's the same as sailing. Be happy today instead of worrying about being happy in the long run.

[Sanji knew this. He'd searched the ship top to bottom that morning already, and with an increasingly bad feeling he'd gone out to cover every shitty inch of the town.

Nothing.

Not a damn sight of him.

He's walking back to the ship late that afternoon when he spots Luffy on the coast, and his feet immediately take him that way. He pauses behind Luffy, hands in his pockets and looking out at the water.]

Yo.

[he wipes his nose with his arm cuz there's a little bit of snot but he's not crying]

I wanna have his favorite food tonight. [Even if it'll make him sad. He wants everyone to taste it so they can see why Usopp is so great]

[Nods, not that Luffy is looking.]

Sure thing.

[Waits a beat, then adds in a deadpan tone:]

Mushrooms on top of shitty mushrooms. With mushroom gravy, and mushrooms on the side.

[he's about to say that Usopp doesn't like mushrooms but then remembers that Sanji knows that because he looks after them.]

Maybe he'll get so hungry, he'll come back. [though Luffy doesn't really believe this. It sounds good to say]

[Laughs softly, but it's the kind of laugh without any real humor to it.]

I don't think that's how it works.

[Steps forward to take a seat next to Luffy.]

But it's not like we won't ever see him again.

[Pinkie parks herself right next to Luffy. Quietly, even! Usopp being gone is sad, since he was really nice and knew how to build things from like...nothing! She watches him draw shapes in the sand, wanting to draw some too. But she'll wait her turn.]

[Pinkie's presence is nice and he likes just to sit there with her as he draws swirly shapes in the sand with a stick. A crab pops out of a little hole and spooks, gliding away across the sand before disappearing again.]

Would you be sad if Celestia was gone?

[he doesn't know why he wants to ask except he wants to so he does.]

[The crab makes her blink in surprise before it crawled away. She looks to him before nodding.]

Yeah. She's the only one I know from home. But if she goes back, then that means she gets to be with everypony else, which is important because she's a princess and they need her there.

[He can ask anything he wants.]

Will Usopp be okay back home?

I have nakama whose a princess, too. She wanted to stay with the people that needed her.

[it makes him feel a tiny bit better to think of Vivi. He draws an "x" in the sand. That was Zoro's idea. So they'd always knew who they were. He nods at Pinkie's words]

Yeah. He's pretty strong and stronger than he was before. It's pretty impressive. He has muscles! He had them before but they were kinda tiny. [a few more "x"s in the sand] He's still Usopp, though.

She must be really nice. [Pinkie smiles. Princesses were really nice people!]

Then he should be okay! He sounds pretty strong! [She sees that Luffy's making Xs in the sand.] What are those for?

[Zoro had been wondering, at least Luffy confirmed it before he got himself lost looking for their crewmate. He doesn't dwell on it, though, and instead stays aboard lifting heavy things for a while. He'll let the others go check on Luffy first, before he does the same thing himself.

Of course, he has no idea where to look for Luffy, but that means he just walks off in a direction and lo and behold, stumbles on him almost right away. He just stands by his captain, a few steps beside and behind him, arms folded]

[He likes it when Zoro stands behind him like that. He likes the long shadow he casts across the sand. It makes Luffy feel strong, too, that Zoro's there. Even if he doesn't always have to be. It makes him want to be. And also protected. He only has to go face things when he wants to. But he sort of wants to. And he sort of doesn't.]

People have left before. Katara and Sokka...

[he draws a few more lines in the sand]

People...are going to leave again...

[maybe more of his nakama... Maybe Ace... The stick breaks and he rests his chin on his knees, looking at the swirls in the sand]

[if Luffy feels the same as he does about their failure at Sabaody, Zoro can completely understand. But he also has two years of perspective]

It isn't by choice, I take it. Whatever brought us here sends us away?

I guess so. I don't know.

[a pause]

If they tried to take you, would you fight it?

[it's okay if not. He knows Zoro belongs to the other time, too. The other him that's two years older and stronger and doing other fun things and having adventures. It's hard not to be a little jealous of it but he is. That him has his nakama, and him him has some of his nakama but a lot of the other ones are still in mystery places]

What kind of a question is that?

[he steps forward to set his hand roughly on Luffy's head, squashing his hat down further]

If it's a thing I can fight, of course I'll fight. My place is beside my captain, wherever he is.
