Δvoice + action to the MurderessΔ

[Link has long been back on his schedule of stirring in the early hours before dawn.

And just when the sun is beginning to creep across the sky, the wind comes. Bustled and nearly knocked off his feet, he stares in awe as the petals it carried float gently onto the deck. There does not seem to be anything special about them...

He tears out his journal, nearly dropping it when he hears laughter lilting from the pages. He waits a moment before speaking.]

This is the Murderess. How farspread was that wind just now? Did it carry black petals as well?

Never. I arrived in the second "wave" of newcomers, if you will, so I might be missing earlier information that others could have. Before we proceed with anything, we need to try to gather more on what we are dealing with. A wind that strikes so far away at the same exactly time is no natural occurence.

I've been trying to talk to the first wave, but there haven't been any stories of something like this. [Not that the other stories are always forthcoming or particularly coherent.]

Information gathering crawls at a snail's pace here. It'll be quicker to just locate the source ourselves and deal with what we find when we get there.

I would think that such an assault would be reckless. If I were on my own, I would agree with you, but would it be wise to drag the entire crew into such unknown territory?

[He frowns, displeasure clear on his face -- because Link is right, not everyone on the crew is equipped for something life-threatening, and for all that they knew their capabilities, their actual teamwork leaves something to be desired.]

We'll just have to leave some of them behind.

If it comes to that, yes.

[He sighs. His time here may have given him an idea for his fellow crewmembers' strengths and weaknesses, but how much can he trust his observations thus far?]

I hope they will be willing to cooperate, though.

We can throw them overboard while we're still close enough to land for them to swim.

[He's mostly serious, too, though he can think of at least one who might fling themselves overboard to avoid going toward the source.]

I doubt that will be necessary.

[Tossing his own crew in the ocean? Saskue, you be cray.]

True, the ones that will likely want to run away will probably do soon their own.

Yes, and I take no issue with that. If they do not have the heart for it, it would be best for all of us if they simply did not come. Charging into danger dispassionately is certain death.

[He isn't trying to be contrary, simply stating from observation.]

We don't need the distraction of people who can't take care of themselves in any case.

[Though ...] Do you have experience fighting on water?

[An embarrassing admission, but...]

I... do not. I had never seen the ocean at all before coming here. The seas of Hylia vanished centuries ago.

... all of them vanished? [Sasuke hasn't spent much time on the ocean before this, but at least there is an ocean.]

Not overnight. [A small note of amusement in his voice.] They dried up. It is only desert, where the waters once rested.

Your world sounds like a strange one. Does the landscape change like that often?

No. It is a corrupt and ruined place. My people must live in the sky, now, as the surface has become so thick with evil.

Evil? [He knew it would be impossibly naive to think that any other worlds might be less corrupt than his own, but it was still something, to know that so many unfailingly were.]

How did that happen?

Many things. The failings of man, the rise of a demon so powerful the Goddess herself descended upon us. It was she who was able to save us.

[Where Link had failed. Is that a sore spot? Oh yeah it is.]

... I thought that woman who was here before was your goddess. She had the power to restore your entire world?

She is, yes. She made the choice to bring her people into the sky, where they would be protected from the horrors of the Surface.

[The thought of that kind of power is incredible, and Sasuke had been in the middle of experiencing some incredible powers before he'd arrived here. He glances out at the ocean, the seeming-endless expanse of it and their slow crawl across this world, and has to wonder how useful such power might have been here.]

Sounds like an actual goddess. [It takes a moment before he remembers that that probably wants clarification --] We had a legend like that, but she was a regular person in the end.

Hm. Hylia appeared as such. The way she was in this world was the same as when she came to us at home. It... is not a legend. Not exactly. I saw her do it with my dying breath.

Does that make the two of us? [Link turns to eye Sasuke, raising his eyebrows slightly.] Yes, I am dead. Cut down by the demon Hylia was then forced to defeat in my stead.

No -- I didn't -- [Even mean to say that, something he realizes a moment late; it's said, and the truth is --] ... I'm not the one who is dead. At least as far as I know.

My apologies. [He offers Sasuke a slight nod, now realizing what he meant.] I do understand that I am not the only one to come here who had passed, though.
