⚔ 2 - Colonial Rite

[Since it seemed to be the thing to do... Haytham took up his quill pen again. There were so many offering up information about the islands they had encountered it only seemed fitting to tell them of the one he had been on. And... warn them of the potential danger. ]

Due to the storm we were blown to the south east. There is a tropical island chain there known by the locals as the Corsair Kingdom. They are, for the most part, friendly but all of you should be made aware that there is a sizable Navy presence on the islands.

I would suggest avoiding the area for now. They are likely to be searching for unknown ships like yours for some time now.

[Mostly because of what happened / will happen in this log.]

On a more business related note. We have a few of the island delicacy known as Phoenix Fruit. If you would care to try it without running a naval blockade we might be convinced to sell a few.

I suppose that means you have been acquiring information on the local islands as well? Perhaps we could exchange notes?

There is a seemingly uninhabited island to the northwest. The map calls it "Green Breeze Island." There was sign of there having been life there before -- writing in a language we couldn't understand. No noticeable naval presence.

There was writing? Did you manage to copy any of it?

[Unusual writing was a sign he often looked for, given a certain quest he was given before he arrived here.]

A shipmate of mine took some down.

[He takes a few moments, flipping between pages to copy down the script Kaito had taken down.]

I wonder, along with the writing did you discover any strange noises or odd glows?

Please tell me more of this Phoenix Fruit? What is it like? Is it worth trying to rendezvous to obtain some from you?

It has quite a unique flavor. The Phoenix Fruit starts out sweet but has a very strong spicy finish to it. I would say it is worth the alteration of course.

Also as it is unlikely a re-visit to that island chain would be possible until the navy returns to their normal routine we probabally have the last shipment of the fruit that will make it off the islands for some time.

I doubt my captain would be interested in altering his course for mere fruit, but I shall at least inform him of your acquisition. We are not currently in your vicinity.

I do thank you for the warning about the Navy, however. It shall be passed along as well. May I inquire as to your name and your ship?

You may not have to alter course at all. There is the Naviraimant. I have heard it can send people from one place to another, so it might be able to handle goods as well.

The ship's name is Larrikin Deuce, mine is Haytham Kenway. To whom am I addressing?

I am Elissa Cousland, ser. Have you any experience in using the Naviraimant device for travel? I am curious as to whether or not it takes a week to recharge upon both ends of the connection or only on the end of origination.

No, I've not used the device. It sounds fantastical but then again we were brought here some how. If you were to attempt it I swear you would be safe on the Larrikin until you were able to return.

As I am the ship's cook, I am not certain that I could be spared for travel, though it is tempting. The Larrikin Deuce? That name sounds familiar for some reason. I shall have to check my correspondence to see if one of my friends is a member of your crew.

Your crew might frown on losing their cook... or might be seen as a welcome reprieve. It depends on the skill of your cooking.

I have obtained permission from my captain to travel to your vessel, provided your own captain offers permission to come aboard. We are currently in port for repairs and supplies, so I am blessedly free of duty in our cramped galley. May I inquire as to the weather where you are?

Also - I can offer quite a bit of eel meat, should you be interested. Or serpent. To be honest, I do not know what it is, but we killed it and it is fresh.

[“Eel?”

Haytham spoke aloud, thinking himself alone. Before he set pen back to paper to write a reply.]

I do know Ban, he is a member of the crew but as to the eel... I doubt that will be necessary--...

[In his haste he hasn't noticed who Haytham is writing back and forth to yet, but it wouldn't be long before he realized. If only they had some seaweed, and rice they'd be set for making THE BEST SUSHI ON THE PLANET]

I will bring some of the sea serpent. If nothing else, you can use it for bait. If Ban is your crew member, I shall also bring another gift that I am sure may be appreciated while it lasts.

I am not sick of them, Evil Eyes. [That nickname alone is enough to illustrate that she's teasing him.] We are merely at port and allowed to take leave. As I am freshly bathed and hope to collect my clean clothing from the washerwoman quite shortly, I am at liberty to pay a visit - provided Ser Kenway and your captain are amenable. I should like to sample this Phoenix fruit.

None of us has yet to make use of the Naviraimant aboard my vessel, I shall be the first soul to brave an attempt.

[Cough. I see what you did there. Referencing that song] That explains it. [Although he would have welcomed some fresh faces onto their crew with open arms. It was hard sharing the same space with other people for this long] Sounds like you've all got it made over there. What's it matter, it's not like they can stop you from testing out the Nav. [Oh right, protocol and all that] I don't think they're going to say no.

[The phoenix fruit... should he warn her about the spicy element to it? NAW- let her learn the way I did. BUWHAHAHAHA]

I was planning on trying it out myself, but I'm going to wait on that since we'll be having a visitor pretty soon. [He couldn't help but smile]

Forgive me, Ser Kenway. I believe I may have responded beneath an over eager friend. Did you see my reply?

We did manage to acquire a shipment or two of the fruit. I understand it is rather difficult to come across.

That still does not explain why a fruit would cause an explosion. Have they special abilities where you come from?
