[there's far less of his usual bluster and enthusiasm in his tone today. So sue him, he's still recovering from his beastly injuries.]

Hate to say this, but. We need help.

My crew's down to just five, and Cyn's pokemon. No one's come back since Jones showed up at Port Chance, and me an' Gaius are in pretty bad shape right now. Draco, Sting...Roxas. They're all gone.

Straw Hat, if that offer for an alliance is still happenin', tell me where you guys are and I'll set sail in an instant. We got no choice, we gotta hook up with another ship. Scratch each other's backs and all that.

...nobody died back there, did they? I been out of commission for a while, I got no idea what's goin' on.

[Totally nibbling on something sweet in the next bed over. He glances at Gan Ning, holding up a small pouch of seasalt caramel cubes in silent inquiry. At least he can still move his left arm.]

...'s been real quiet, huh. Wonder how things went with Jones.

....also wish Maribelle or Brady were still about- being laid up in bed all day is pretty dull.

[shakes his head - no thanks, Gaius, caramels make his teeth hurt]

At the risk of bein' cliche - too quiet.

We were too busy with the snake thing, I didn't see if anyone attacked Jones.

[Shrugging- and wincing thereafter, Gaius lowers the pouch onto his stomach before poking through it for another piece.]

Yeah, but so long as it stays that way, I won't complain. We've had enough surprises lately.

...I didn't either. Didn't look pretty being in either place though.

We got that thing, though. [just a little touch of raarrr] We got it. That fishy guy got it started and you finished it. We did it.

Sure did. Hey, don't think either of us could've done it without you there. Although it did try hard to take us all out along with it.

...where'd it come from? One of Jones'?

Dunno. [he's been racking his brain for days trying to puzzle whether there was any evidence of what it was, where it came from, what it wanted]

...it had jewel shards in it, though. One fell by me, Hiccup said he grabbed it.

Whoa, really? Nice to know we got something for our trouble at least.

Yeah. 'S pretty big, too. Not as big as your amulet, but not bad.

I just dunno if it's safe to have those around anymore. Who knows what Jones wants, now that he's like. Undead. Resurrected. Whatever.

Niiice. ...hope that thing's still in the fridge where I left it. I haven't gotten to check.

[wow, not even to the kitchen? Poor Gaius. He tuts under his breath.]

Look at us. Laid up like this. Ain't fair.

I'll say. I haven't been able to go anywhere out of this room. One groan and Cynthia's got me back in bed.

[He pops the caramel into his mouth, pouting as he sucks on it.]

Eh. We wouldn't still be here if not for her, but at the same time, I'd go for a little less mother hen, too.

Least I got some of the feeling back in my arm. [he flexes the fingers of his left hand. It's actually pretty much healed, but as soon as he's back on normal duty he'll find it aching under stress.]

[Gaius nods carefully.]

That's good. I can feel mine plenty, it's mostly just sore but I'm lucky that head didn't take it completely off.

Yeah. I mean...people've come back from the dead before, but I don't think you'd get an arm back if that happened.

Hell of a fight, wasn't it? Stuff o' legend.

Oh yeah, I've heard that- doesn't mean I wanna find out. ...and I kinda like having two arms. How else am I going to bake?

[He chuckles a little.]

...you said it, Jingles. I'll be happy not to have to do that again, but I guess if we're all still here, we've still gotta take down Jones.

Ugh. I don't wanna think about that, but we gotta. He's out there, now, not just some vague ghost thing who decides when people come and go from here. If any of us wanna go home, we're gonna have to.

Yeah...

...well, on the bright side, maybe we'll finally be able to punch him one for Jumpstart.

[rolls his head slowly over to look at Gaius directly]

I don't remember who that's supposed to be. Damn, man, you and your nicknames.

[he's still amused, but. Nope, some he can figure out but this one he can't]

Aw come on, who else proposed we go sock Jones one from the get go?

[He can't help but laugh a bit though.]

Oh wow... [shit that was a long time ago] I'd totally forgotten.

[sadface. He didn't mean to forget.]

Yeah... I dunno, for some reason that's one of the things that I was able to recall. But then that's how I ended up with this crew in the first place. Heh. Stealing ships right from the start.

Yeah. [faint, wistful smile] Yeah, that was us. They were good guys, really. I might not remember every little thing but I remember the important bits.

Good times. [He grins faintly.]

It's been a while, huh...

Yeah, it has. Kinda crazy, how much has happened in the last year.

And here we are, still kickin'. Somehow.

Yep. But then I doubt any of us are the kind to just lie down and give up.
