[A little girl's voice comes through the journal. Except, it's a little more hardened and bitter than usual! Anyone who's spoken to B.B. before may not find the voice instantly recognizable, a definite change from the usual high pitched tone the young lady has.]

Are we done crying about everyone leaving yet?

I've been here what, half a year now? I get it at this point. Who stays and who goes is completely up to some asinine bullshit whim. But guess what? Everyone whining won't bring them back. That's just how it is.

Grow a pair and move the hell on already. Leaving is what humans do. If you don't know that by now, there's no hope for any of you.

[Don't mind her. She might be sampling some fruits from way up high.]

If they need help to keep them from whining, then that I can help with.

But without reflection, it is far more difficult to identify patterns and modify your behavior or situation accordingly.

It certainly isn't something that needs to be done at every minute of every day, but there's a reason history is taught. The past can -- and should -- be learned from.

Does it really matter if someone's been here for that long? Most have a hard time coping with separation like that.

You're certainly a rather vile mouthed and insensitive little thing aren't you? Have you perhaps never heard of tact? Because you are certainly lacking it.

Please. At this rate, the people here would cry if one of their own just left to a convenience store for a few hours.

Ah, you mean it'd be better to lie to them? "Oh, don't you worry! Everyone who's left you will be back, and it's all thanks to the power of your tears!"

Yes actually, it would be better that you simply lie about it than to brutally try to strip them of any hope they might have. There is a time and place for everything, and while the truth is a very important and necessary thing, you could at least not throw it in the face of every person who may have lost someone dear to them. Do you also take great joy in pouring salt in wounds, or kicking a man while he is down?

You can only break so many ribs, but watching someone writhe in pain in salt is always better. But that's beside the point. I'd much prefer it if we didn't spend our time complaining that someone may have fallen off of their ship. Life goes on.

I see, I should have expected one of the more insidious and vile pirates to come out of the woodworks to complain about genuine grief and loss, when they are too far gone to feel such human emotions.

It's a process, and if you do not let the grieve, how will they ever truly come to terms with the loss?

Most if not all pirates are insidious and vile, thank you very much. Even if I do miss someone, I know better than to drag the entire ocean into my emotions. There's always more than one way to quietly grieve. One that can let everyone else be in peace.

Perhaps, but perhaps there's also the chance that they may find whoever it is they are missing, or let others know in case they were curious as to why a close friend of theirs vanished. Not everyone was taken by davy jones after all, and it's much easier to get over your own personal grief if you can lean on the shoulder of another. If it bothers you so much, why don't you simply ignore it?

Because when you hear it over and over and over, it gets annoying and hard to ignore. How hard is it to understand that some people just leave?

You could ask the very same question about death. Death has been occurring for as long as there has been life, yet people still grieve over it regardless. It's simply a more common occurrence here to lose someone than for them to die, because death is not nearly as permanent a thing with Davy Jones manipulating things.

Fine. I'm learning right now, in fact. "Ignore this pompous voice", I've learned. Thank you for the lesson.

That's completely different, though! One hundred percent different! If someone leaves, where do they go? Home? At least they're not being used as a slave for some ghost! If someone dies, they don't come back!

They-- [She stops. There's a very noticeable pause.] They don't get that luxury away from this place.

What evidence do you have that all of those who vanish return home? What if they do simply die? Or worse? We don't know the fate of every person who disappears, and that's one of the things that's so troubling.

Has anyone thought to ask? Are there scars or trauma or anything that insists that? One just can't forget death that easily.

Perhaps the ones that never do come back are simply dead and we never see the body so we have no proof of this. Not everyone who vanishes reappears, and that's one of the many fears that people here harbor when a loved one disappears.
