[Jon opens the journal. Flipping through it there's nothing but silence from him save for his breathing, it's almost like he's about to say or write something but doesn't for the longest time. Then slowly shaking his head, the sound of the journal coming in contact with the ground can be heard faintly.

Finally he speaks, but it's more to himself]

I don't have time for this. I need to find a way back.

[Yeah....that's it]

We are all trying to find a way back to our homes, actually. Unfortunately there is no convenient way as of yet.

I'm sorry that you don't have time for this, but doubtful whatever it is you need to get back to you'll actually be able to get back to soon.

[So Jon didn't except the journal to talk back to him, please give him a moment as he stares back, but he'll respond eventually. Albeit a little cautiously]

[Figuring out who or what he's talking to will come a bit later]

[By this point, Jon is aware that the journal is used to communicate with others, so his tone is considerably less wary. He still doesn't sound too happy]

When you say that...are you talking about this being an different world entirely?

The shards, right? I was hoping for more options.

[Really, he's much more talkative at times. Though Jon does pause to consider adding something else]

I know this island is called Port Chance, but do you know the name of these lands?

Is there really no other option?

[Blunt and to the point is helpful at least. Of course it's not the answer he wants to hear, so there's audible sigh from him]

I heard the only way back is to search for shards and once you have them all you get a wish. Is that true? It sounds like a myth to me.

Each island has its own name but I have never heard a name used to describe the entirety of the world we find ourselves in. I suppose, they are just not unified enough to have come up with one.

Indeed. It seems that everyone here has been pulled from their own home world and brought here.

Well you could always try swimming and see how far that takes you. But I'm pretty sure your best bet right now is to play along with this crazy treasure hunt and hope to whatever god you believe in that we find those shards faster.
