[Shipmates, feel free to find the poor guy sprawled out by the table in the galley. Unfortunately, don't expect much response from him over the journal. Someone's going through sugar withdrawal.]

Nope.

Here's the only place I've spoken to him. He told me he popped in from the future because there was a big mess, so they needed to make sure it didn't happen in our time. He only mentioned you were his mother.

Yes... that's correct. Chrom's daughter was the enigmatic figure known as 'Marth' who you may have seen the night you turned sides in Ylisse's favor. She had been trying to stop the death of Emmeryn and save our world from the darkness that was to come. Brady and the others came later, dispersed around the world, seemingly dropped from portals to just about any location.

... So it never bothered you that... you theoretically could be the father without knowing it?

Wait, so that Marth is...ah, what did he call her- Lucina?

...but the Exalt still died...

...I hadn't considered that...

Yes, that was Lucina... a very remarkable young woman I must say.

... Yes... but apparently that was because our children from the future weren't the only ones who stepped through time to change the course of events.

[He cringes, but moving away from the journal would take more effort.]

W-well no..! Should it have? If it were something like that, wouldn't it be something Brady should have mentioned from the start??

[Maribelle is just rubbing her temples, trying to ease the headache this is all causing her.]

I wouldn't be so sure Gaius, he might be trying to make sure not to upset the delicate balance of time and space, changing the future could endanger his entire existence for all we know, and could make it so he was never born. It's possible if you are his father he wouldn't want to tell you in case knowing might change the future.

[Maribelle lets out a long sigh.]

To be honest though... I don't know who Brady's father is either. I remember Brady... I remember Brady having a father but... it's as if those pieces of my memory were taken from me.

[Falling silent again, he listens and supposes that does make sense. But even so, if that was a possibility...

Ugh. This is giving him a headache too, not that one hasn't been impending already from his lack of sugar.]

...so you're from a lot farther along than I am when it comes to things back home. Although I figured as much since you knew that Henry guy and I didn't, but I wasn't sure just how far that was.

[It's kind of a weird thing to feel. Even with people from home that you know or should know, you could still kind of feel...alone, here.]

[Another sigh from Maribelle.]

I suppose I am at that... Look Gaius, I certainly don't know if you're Brady's father, and I certainly won't deny it's theoretically possible, but I don't want you to feel like this has to change our friendship. The most important thing is that you are my friend, even if someday you might be more, or such sparks might never ignite between us, you'll still always be someone I consider to be close to me, okay? You may not be aware of this... but I don't have many people I can call friends, especially home in Ylisse. Before Lissa I had no friends at all. So I really... cherish the friends I do have, like you.

There you go. Use those stomach muscles, put some effort into it.

[Deadpan all the way.

Then he turns away to raid through some of the cabinets.]

[Okay, that's enough stomach muscling. He manages to prop his arms under him. Come one Gaius, if this is you at an hour, how bad would it be after a day? A week?]

... [He echoes that sigh, although there's a faint snort at the end, like a quiet laugh.]

Always straight up about these things. Crivens woman, for all the secrets you hint about having, you sure like laying things out pretty plainly.

...but I guess you felt that it needed to be said. Truth is, there weren't a whole lot of people I could call friends back home. at last, not until I ran into you lot. Okay, so it wasn't the best of circumstances then, but considering the alternative probably would've ended up with me dead, who am I to complain?

Heh. I never thought in my life I'd ever be hobnobbing with people like Chrom or like yourself, much less being considered a friend. ...so...thanks. For that chance. And for saying it.

[Returns to the table with whatever random fruit he managed to find. He plops an apple down in front of Gaius.]

Eat.

[He blinks at that, but reaches over to pick up the apple. And since Raphael's talking with that tone, he'll take a bite.]

I'm a woman of mysteries Gaius. I only reveal my secrets when and if I feel they should be revealed, and in this instance, I thought it most appropriate to share this one with you.

[For example, she's never revealed that she knows the location of a maid cafe in Ylisse where dozens of beautiful women cater to your every whim. ~~She saved that little secret for Lon'qu~~]

And Gaius? For what it's worth, you're welcome. I'd like for you to come visit Brady and I sometime, just so it feels like there's a little piece of the shepherds still here with us, but I understand you have responsibilities. Perhaps then I'll take some time out of my schedule to try and visit you on my own.

I wouldn't mind visiting, and I'm sure the rest of the crew here wouldn't mind if you visited too, some time. Being stuck on a ship for a while, you kinda forget that you aren't completely cut off from the rest of the world.

[He dumps a few other things onto the table -- a couple oranges and a banana.]

Fruit has sugar in it. Or something. Right? Maybe you'll look like less of a wimp if you use that as a substitute.

[He runs a hand over his face.]

Gods, you think I'd figure that. This no-sugar thing's affecting my brain.

He blames Donnie, his nerdiness must be rubbing off.]

You should eat whatever Mikey makes for dinner, too, but at least the fruit is healthy. ...Hey, maybe you could make this a permanent switch!

Eh, let's take this one step at a time, huh?

[He supposes the effort couldn't hurt, but there's no way he can completely give up sugary goodies forever.]
