Cheers to the rookies who put themselves in the line of fire to get their comrades. I had low opinions of you guys before, but you're really comin' through and showin' you've got the guts to be pirates! So, cheers wherever you are! Cheers to your bravery and here's to hoping it wasn't a one-time thing!

Now, I got to thinkin'--that we aren't gonna last on these seas if we keep sailing as gently as we have. From here on out, I'm declarin' war on every lousy pirate who thinks they can dominate us and take away our freedom. It's war, so be ready!

[There was the sound of Ace hitting a pony-keg with a tap.]

Anyway! Spade Pirates! We're gonna put a formal halt on recruiting for the moment! Given that we've got so many newcomers to the sea, I think our vets need a break and a bit of time to regain our respective composure. So, I'll be puttin' a halt on recruits with two exceptions--

First, anyone bearin' this mark I'm drawin' here in the journal is someone you can recruit! Bear in mind, we Whitebeards recognize our own. If someone comes in with a false mark, we'll kick the shit out of them the second we see them.
The last prerequisite to gettin' past our halt on recruiting is: If anyone's completely cool, awesome and they know how to sail, we'll take them!

Otherwise-- No more recruiting!

[Awhile later, Ace edits this entry, making it private to his Spade Pirates.]

ATTENTION:

Something has come up and I need to go for a bit. I haven't gone crazy or anything, I just need to look for somebody. Don't worry about me getting lost-- the Striker moves a hundred times faster than any normal ship and I can make it to an island quick enough to Nav back to the Sun.

Thatch is out on his own little trip. That means our two 'in place' Commanders are Marco and Namur, for the Sun and Moon respectively. They give directions while Thatch and I are out.

I'm going to scout the waters for awhile to see if anyone's on our tail before I go. You have ten minutes to ask me questions before I focus on where I'm going. Alright? Ask now if you need to know anything.

Link, Ocarina of Time
I have a map to a fairy island. I need to get to it so I can find a fairy that will heal my broken leg. I need a ship and a crew who will not harm the fairies there or pull off their wings. I have a crew to return to once my leg is healed. This is just for the trip. Anyone who promises to be nice to the fairies can come but I will not show the map to anyone but the ship captain.

[There's a bit of a pause as he tries to think up something to say. He feels pretty stupid, talking into a book.]

Huh...Well, that was a hell of a thing. Wish more towns welcomed me with a free-for-all. Guess these guys are giving us the low-tech approach, huh? Can't say I'm much of writer, so I guess the fact that these things take dictation is pretty lucky.

Gotta' say, I didn't expect to wake up in the light of the sun. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a hell of a lot more scenic than the inside of a cell. Just a bit of mood whiplash. Funny, usually I'm the guy who decides when I leave.

Anyway, I guess I need to get on somebody's crew. Way I figure, as long as I have food in my belly and plenty of guys to fight, I'll be fine. Not really much of a "material possession" kinda' guy, you know? I learn quick and I'm plenty strong.

Anybody got room on a crew for someone like that?

[The sound of a chilling wind filters through the journals followed by a female voice, hesitant and scared. Terrified even.]

Is... Is everything over yet? Did you, the people who can listen this... Were you victorious?

[A long pause filled with nothing but the wind and the sound of someone's breath.]

Is everyone safe?

[The last message that had appeared in the journals had been on Thursday, after that... Nothing. Until a few moments ago, at least, which is why she dares, why she pushes herself to ask.]
