On a scale of 1-10, it depends on what you're scaling. If you're rating for authenticity to common pirate lore, somewhere between a seven to a nine seems appropriate. Which directly feeds into most other means of rating in terms of experience. Cleanliness is definitely in the negatives, though that seems to come with the territory of pirates. Sustenance is also somewhat lacking, though I'm finding I enjoy the vague sense of adventure that comes with having no idea what, precisely, much less when, I will eat.

If given the choice to be an incest I would surely go for a praying mantis. They do appear rather prolific amongst the insect kingdom, and I rather like the idea of having a visible means to protect myself.
