Yes. Those creatures are other living things with spirits all their own. It would be disrespectful to take them for granted.

That would be up to you to determine what you feel would be appropriate or right. When I take the life of an animal I tell them Niá:wen or thank you in my native language. It may not seem like much but it is an acknowledgement of their sacrifice. In your case, the sheep have not had to lose their lives so if it were me, I would see to their care and make sure that their living conditions are as ideal as they can be on board a vessel such as this.
