first discovery; written/action

[ Immediately alarmed by the scale of the things around him, when this Charmander awoke he avoided the eyes of any people as best as he could, and heart still beating fast he peeked out slightly of the alley in which he ran. After calming down somewhat he sits, and there's some hesitation as Calvin contemplates writing in the journal he somehow had. He raises a quill, lowers it... lets it hover there above the page, and then raises it up again.

Where should he even start? There were all the obvious things, like how the place is like, what info is known and whatnot. It was strange, and it could be dangerous... but the Charmander supposed some solace could be found in that he wasn't the only one in this situation. He absently waves the feather at the side of his cheek, and looks up to the cloudy sky, still puzzled. The glow of a fire flickering so low to the ground might be a curious sight for those who happen to pass by that street. But before he gets distracted; finally, he begins to write some words. ]

You know, even with all the weird things that have happened in my life, this is a whole new level of unbelievable. I hope you don't take offense if I ask this but... are there any... [ At his second's pause, the ink blot thickens. ] other non-humans here?

And um--I've never actually seen humans before today. [ At least, not while they still looked human. ] I guess I'm a little overwhelmed...? [ So he wanted to find others like him and feel a bit more secure... ]

I can't say I have, but you can make friends with both humans and non-humans, we aren't picky.

I mean back home I have friends who weren't human themselves. We had a special bond. But I can totally get being overwhelmed. Must be tough.

[She is on a mission, clearly, and Calvin appears to be her destination. He is quite the interesting specimen, after all! She's never seen another reptile other than her sister, and especially not one with fire on his tail! She must investigate!]

I'm a "mister", I guess! But it feels weird saying that because I'm still just a kid... Are you one too? [ Just by going with the handwriting, it sounds like it's one even smaller than he is, figuratively speaking. ]

Wow, that's a while back... Has this place been okay to you?

Months huh... So I guess the thing about being stuck here really is true! And all that mention of shards as our mission...

--Surprises? Are they the bad kind? [ Even as an adventurer in blood, sometimes he still had the quivers! Hopefully it wasn't obvious in writing... ]

Oh that's a relief...! I feel a little silly being scared now but... I guess I didn't want to weird any of the people around either. [ I mean, even for 'mons themselves the natural instinct to something strange would be to at least only be curious at a safe distance. ]

Wow, so were you really good friends? It's kind of funny, but my best friend was a human. They just didn't look like one... it's complicated. But you guys only existed in folktales, back home. Or at least, that's what I thought growing up. [ He realizes something, and gets excited. ] Thinking about it now... that means so many other things that I thought were only made-up stories could be real!

[ The feeling is mutual, he breathes a sigh of relief, even if he's been informed the humans aren't bad people themselves. ]

Yup, magic journal, weird first page, and no memory of how I got here. I... guess the question is: what now? The fountain said something about heading to sea but... I've never set sail before! [ Heck, he isn't so sure what a ship is. ]

[ Oh! That sure answers his query, he's surprised he's found another reptilian like him. But she sure doesn't look like any 'mon he's seen before. But that's of no concern to Calvin, because along with her small size she seems friendly enough. New friends were always good things. ]

Hi there, i's nice to meet you! Do you live here?

You think so? [ He's more surprised than his text implies; because up to now the few humans he had gotten to talk to over journal seemed friendly enough and accepting. Plus his own best friend having been human just trapped in another body. Maybe he wasn't supposed to let his guard down about the entire species so quickly...

With some caution, he adds: ]

So I guess you're no human either... [ He's almost tempted to ask if they had wronged him somehow in the past, but that would be a really rude thing to bring up with a stranger. Or even a friend! Recalling bad memories is just dangerous all-in-all. ]

I guess so...? [ He doesn't know what mermaids are, but there are Bear Pokémon and Ponyta and Rapidash! They sound like they hit a little closer to home. ] --Wait, so by "we have" do you mean as a team? As friends? You don't find it weird or anything they're not your kind?

Yeah, man, heck if I know. I live in a city, you know, skyscrapers and stuff. There's a river, but mostly all this boat stuff isn't my thing.

Sounds like that's going to be the quickest way to get us out of this lame world, though.

A city? Skyscrapers? [ Huh. ] Sounds like your world is as foreign to me as this one. But I guess that only makes sense. I come from a town at a beachside; there wasn't much there in terms of actual eventfulness, but it was home! And the explorers always had great stories! [ So it never got boring even back when he wasn't one himself yet. ]

Some of the people I've talked to said they've been here months now... so it might take more than just a little while. [ They're not going to hasten the shard-gathering process just laying about though, that was a point. ] Do you believe that thing about the gem that grants a wish? [ Calvin wasn't going to lie, he was intrigued... ]

Like...buildings. Really tall buildings. We've got beaches, too, but I've never really been to one.

...Months? [Are you freaking kidding? Raph groans.] Aw man, I can't be here for months, who knows what'll happen to my brothers if I'm not there to help them kick alien butt! Geez.

[Grump grump. He makes a considering sound at Calvin's question.]

Ehh, who knows. I mean, there's a lot of weird stuff where I'm from so I guess some crazy voodoo piece of jewelry isn't too out there. Besides, if people have really been here that long, hopefully they've found something that backs up that fairy tale.

We have buildings, but not really tall ones... except for a few towers in isolated places. Are skyscrapers like towers?
You should go to a beach sometime when you have the opportunity! It was always my favorite spot to relax and feel better whenever I was down. [ He scratches his cheek and laughs a bit to himself. ] But I guess there'll be no shortage of beaches here; the smell of seawater is everywhere.

[ Calvin nods to himself in sentiment. ] I have a team that I need to help out back home too. I know we haven't been doing anything strictly "work" lately, but I don't want them to worry that I've gone, and the guild too... [ But to be fair with all his recent traveling they might just think he was on some extended voyage... W-would they really not suspect anything because it seemed too normal? That was a little scary a thought. ] So do you fight the unknown or something back home? That's so cool!

Usually, fantastic tales of powers like wish-granting are associated with beings more than objects where I come from... maybe even one of them could grant wishes. I'm sure it's nothing simple though, or everyone would be having what they wanted granted and no one think to really work hard. [ Ponder ponder... ] But with that in mind if a lot of people are trying to get this gem, what if they--we, only get one wish? I don't know if everyone will agree, even if it's something like "going home"...
