[Mitsuhide's entry isn't an neat as usual; it's clear that his hand is shaking as he writes. The young samurai is deeply distressed right now, and for good reason.]

I am certain my Lord Motochika has been poisoned, but the specific poison is a mystery to me. If any of you have any idea what it might be from the symptoms, please, let me know. I have to take care of him.

[Afterwards there is only a scratchy list, which gets added to over a thirty-minute or so period:]

- Bad stomach sickness, cool skin, sweating
- Laboured breathing
- Talk of dizziness, headaches, numbness
- Confusion?

[OOC: The actual poison is the aconitum herb, better known as Wolfsbane! It's not a lethal dose, however. The poison is used almost worldwide and is likely to be familiar to anyone with any experience in medicine, crime or general outdoors survival. Feel free to recognise it... or not, as you wish!]

Are you certain it is poison, rather than illness? I ask only to rule out possibilities.

Yes. The rapid onset and development of symptoms makes me believe so, along with other circumstances I do not wish to discuss.

[Deciding what to do with the likely poisoner is not Mitsuhide's focus right now; between that and keeping Motochika alive, there is no contest.]

If you could feel for a pulse, it would help. Is it quick? Slow? Normal? Irregular?

I apologize for the questions, but without being able to see him myself, I don't want to risk a wrong diagnosis.

Ingested, administered through contact or through puncture?

Definitely ingested.

His pulse is slow, and somewhat irregular at times.

Do you have lobelia, black mustard seed, or bayberry?

These will induce vomiting and could get the toxin out of his system.

I don't think that will help. He has vomited several times already; it was the first symptom of the problem. I think it's already in his blood.

Remove any flowers or herbs you don't recognize. Do not come into direct skin contact with them. It's likely aconitum poisoning. Find a physician or herbalist and ask about antidotes for wolf's bane.

[He's been stymied left and right by the level of technological advancement in this place, but that seems like it may be a valid solution.]

Aconitum.

[He's heard of it before, and knows it as a poison of assassins. The specifics are beyond Mitsuhide, however, but he will trust what he is told right now. Especially if another comes to the same conclusion.]

Keep him hydrated. Unfortunately, it may simply have to run its course.

Will he be alright? Is there anything I can do to assist either of you? [He's writing back instead of seeking him out in case he wants privacy.]

Another had told me that Aconitum is the cause. An antidote may be possible to obtain, but I will be sure to keep him drinking water as well.

Aconitum? Even in my world -- with technological advances beyond what I've seen here -- I've never seen an antidote to acontium poisoning. Antiarrhythemics -- to stabilize the heartbeat -- can help, but they're not actually antidotes.

And even most of those are manufactured, not naturally occurring.

Someone determined the poison for us. It's Aconitum, also called 'wolf's bane' according to he who offered his assistance.

[It's written in a hurry. Mitsuhide is deeply frightened, and needs to get this sorted as soon as possible.]

I have to go and search the stores on Isla Empieza for an antidote as a matter or urgency. Please keep an eye on Lord Motochika while I am gone, Master Gakupo. With luck it will not take me too long to find what is needed.

[Not a good thing to say, really; Mitsuhide's handwriting becomes even more erratic.]

I have to try. In a world of the strangest and most unlikely things... he may die if I find nothing!

Keep him awake, keep him hydrated, and try to keep as much food in his system as possible with his stomach. Water and nourishment will help the body flush the toxin eventually.

[Mitsuhide is already preparing to leave, and so the next paragraph comes in bits and pieces over a few minutes.]

The main issue right now is keeping him hydrated and ensuring he does not choke when he vomits. I hope I am not gone long enough that you have to give him water, and he is positioned right now in a manner to prevent choking, but we still must worry. He is deeply confused and uncertain of his surroundings right now.

[Seeing the words appear little by little is odd, but really fascinating. These journals are full of surprises.]

I'll go there right now, then. Please, don't worry too much. I'll do what I can to make sure he's comfortable. Maybe a song will help. It must be pretty boring having to stay in bed, even if it's for the best.

Lord Motochika has a musician's soul; a song would be well appreciated, I am sure.

[A pause, and Mitsuhide adds one more thing before he goes:]

[Mitsuhide is not giving up on searching the island for something more immdiately helpful, but these basic things he already has been working on and will stick to. Getting Motochika to take water has been a painful challenge...]

[It's just another reminder of what this place is. Of how little he can help with here. And it's quietly frustrating. More and more every day.]
