Slaughtering turkeys is a common tradition for this holiday, then? I don't suppose anyone got too attached to theirs, or decided to save it in a pen in case future rations become scarce.

I have been able to bear witness to the results of some of my own future actions, but only due to being brought here. Immortality seems more like a punishment than anything.

As a soldier, I can tell you that focusing only on the negative will get you nowhere. It's the positives that you have to fight and push for or else you will see nothing worth redeeming.
Humans have only the time they're given. Decisions are made quickly. People look to get the most of the life they have, even if this means that others aren't allowed to. That is the unfortunate aspect of mortality.
