[Anyone on the deck of the Charming Murderess is going to see Marvelous standing atop the highest railing he could perch himself on.

Regardless, his journal is open in his hand, broadcasting to anyone on this ship or the Triton's Mistress. All told, he had not been there LONG from the Nav before things started to look sour. But, stuff happens. Better to roll with the punches than sit and worry about them.]

Attention, crew of the Charming Murderess! This is your new Captain speaking! My name is Marvelous.

Introduction's going to have to be short and sweet, though - in case you haven't noticed, thanks to some of our fellow pirates out there on the seas burning an island to the ground we now have this Navy poised to hunt us down and be rid of us.

I did not sign up for this just to get sunk the moment I set foot on here. So, I want to take stock of you guys and this ship.

Just what the hell do we have to work with?

Meanwhile, Triton's Mistress! I've been told this ship has an alliance with you. I'm prepared to keep on with that if you are, but I'm guessing me and your Captain need to have a little chat.

[...Now he certainly is a character. Link is grinning already, stretched out on his hammock with his journal open. Naturally, he makes his way out to the deck.]

It is a pleasure to have you with us, Captain. You as well, Luka. My name is Link... not to be confused with our Cabin Boy who shares my name and apparent love for green hats.

I have never sailed before coming to this place, but I was a strategist and warrior in my home. I offer my help in any way you may see fit, especially in this time of sudden urgency.

Heh, I was wondering about the older one the kid had mentioned.

[It's obvious in his tone that he's annoyed with it.]

[Marvelous raises an eyebrow, noting the tone, but continues anyway.]

Yeah, it does kind of suck to just walk right into.

I'm starting to think we may be outfitted well enough for it, at least, so long as we keep good heads on our shoulders.

Perhaps. Did you listen to Scurvy Dog's most recent announcement regarding their own armaments?

[All of those canons and men don't sound like a walk in the park.]

Yep. Much as I hate to say it, we can't just barrel into them with this ship.

When and if we encounter them, we've got to be smart about it. And we have to be prepared.

Yes. Her Grace Hylia possesses a bird which we could to exploit for scouting, perhaps. He has a sharp tongue, but he may be what we need to ensure our path is clear.

[Link fails to realize that most folks don't assume birds can talk... oops.]

[Coincidentally, Marvelous back home has one that does just that. ... Well, she keeps saying she's not a bird, and she actually IS something else, but it's complicated. Let's just say: talking robot parrot.]

So, since we've got a better chance of these guys gunning after us in the near future, I've got a question - you say you're a strategist too, right?

Say we can't out sail or out run one of these Navy ships that Dog described. With what we've got to work with, what do you think would be the best course of action then?

Well... I know almost nothing of warfare on the ocean, so I may not be the most apt person for advising on this matter, but I think we must keep in mind the relative size of our ships and theirs. A ship with fewer sailors moves faster, does it not? We've less equipment and fewer bodies. We boast maneuverability that they, in all likelihood, do not. We should take advantage of that fact. Our agility is likely to be superior.

[Marvelous heard him out, and smirked a bit at the response. Really, he'd just wanted to throw something out to see how this guy would reply. See just how much he was what he said he was.

For at least the moment, Marvelous was convinced enough .]

That all sounds about right, actually. You've got a good head on your shoulders, it sounds like.

I trust you know more about battle on the ocean than I do... Have you begun planning specifics in the case that we are chased down?

[Link knows that it hasn't been long, but... time is already ticking. There is suddenly much more at stake.]

Eh, the sea not as much. Not exclusively, really.

If anything though, it's a little less complex than dealing with the sky our outer space. Things can come at you from all directions there, and while there could sure as hell be some nasty things coming up from the bottom here, it limits things.

If we are chased down, or when... Well, that's why I want to see what everyone here is capable of. And while I don't wanna go poking at them with a stick yet, I think we can manage.

[...What is outer space? Link decides the question to be irrelevant, so he lets it go for now.]

All right. Were you thinking of a mandatory crew assembly of some sort?

Eh, we're pirates. We're not military.

So long as everyone does what they need to, and fights when we need to fight, things like that aren't necessary.

[Link doesn't sound so sure about that part. Weren't military forces successful because they were organized? He isn't about to question his captain when he has only just arrived, but... Perhaps he will try to speak with those he is close to.]

If there's any we need to assemble to discuss, we will, but right now we just need to find where we all stand. If I just come in on my first day bossing everyone around, I wouldn't expect ANYONE to listen to me.

[In reality, Marvelous knew he had to prove HIMSELF to them more than they to him, at the moment. And there didn't appear to be anything he needed to put his foot down about yet. Just a number of fully capable people whose leadership had vanished. He could work with that, but he wasn't expecting everyone to fall in line behind him immediately.]

Like I said. If everyone knows what they need to do, we're good for right now.

Ohhh, a strategist. I guess we may be relying on you in battle then... you good with any weapons?

Battle is something of my specialty, yes. [He sits himself against the deck's railing and sets the journal in his lap.] I hope I can be of service to you. Although... My knowledge of weapons, though extensive in my home, seems obsolete here. The closest things to guns my people possessed were canons.

I see... well, I'm in the opposite boat. Our last ship could FLY.

So I guess it'll be a learning experience for all'a us.

...It flew? I have flown on a bird, but never... never a ship.
